Toad
Super Smash Bros. Melee Trophy Information
Toad, Peach's longtime servant, first showed off his strength in Super Mario Bros. 2, then proved to be an agile driver in Super Mario Kart. There are many Toads in Peach's castle and across the Mushroom Kingdom, and although they look similar, they have varied natures. Not the best of guards, Toad must often be rescued.
History
Toad first appeared in the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES, as "Mushroom Retainer". Mario rescued Toad from the first seven castle levels. In the eighth castle, he rescued Princess Toadstool.
Toad appeared again in Super Mario Bros. 2. This time his name was Toad, and he was a playable character (along with Mario, Luigi and Princess Toadstool). He wasn't very good at jumping, but he was extremely fast when it came to plucking vegetables or digging sand.
For the third installment of the Super Mario Bros. series, Toad was once again a non-playable character. All he did was tell Mario to find the Magic Wand to turn the Mushroom Kings back to normal.
Toad was the main character of Wario's Woods, a Nintendo puzzle game. He was helped by a Birdo named Catherine and a fairy named Wanda.
Many Toads appeared in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. They had different coloured spots on their mushroom hats and were usually the majority of inhabitants in the game's towns.
Toads inhabited Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64. They gave Mario some information about the game's storyline and gameplay.
The Toads lived in Toad Town in Paper Mario, Mario's Nintendo 64 RPG. They also ran the Toad Houses. The Toad Houses were just like inns, but they didn't cost any money to stay in.
Toad also appeared in Luigi's Mansion. When Luigi talked to him, Toad was crying. Luigi cheered him up and Toad let him save the game in return.
The Toads guarded Princess Peach in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and asked Mario to help get her voice back. They did not appear much for the rest of the game because Toads do not live in many parts of the BeanBean Kingdom - however, they do have their own village, Little Fungitown.
The Toads went to Isle Delfino with Mario, Princess Peach and Toadsworth in Super Mario Sunshine. A Toad of each colour appears and Mario can talk to them in Isle Delfino.
Toads also appear in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. They didn't have their own village (unlike Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga), but they still appeared in various towns.
Toad also appears in the Mario Party and Mario Kart series, as well as the Mario sports games.
