Template:Articleabout The False Bowsers first appeared in Super Mario Bros. Mario had to fight seven of them (one in each castle) before he could reach Bowser's Castle and fight the real one. Hitting a false Bowser with fireballs would show that they were really just common enemies with a spell cast on them. The enemies are:

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels additional worlds:

False Bowsers returned in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, aiding the true Bowser in his second bid for the Mushroom Kingdom throne. In this game, False Bowsers would appear in World 8-4 and D-4, along with the real Bowser. This Bowser was more of a mint-green color instead of the Normal color, however, in the Super Mario All Stars remake, he looked identical to Bowser.

A similar enemy, known as the Bowser Clone, appeared in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

A False Bowser makes a cameo appearance in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It is seen in a special area inside Bowser's Castle which is a side-scrolling level imitating a Super Mario Bros. level. The False Bowser appears at the end of that level. In Mario & Luigi RPG 3, Bowser swallows a Dark Fawful bug causing him to change into Shadow Bowser.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, A False Bowser made of Shadow Bugs is fought in The Subspace Emissary.
