Super Star
This article is about the item Star. For information on the species visit this article.
An item found in the Mario Party series. If a player passes a Star space, they can pay 20 Gold Coins for one Star. The winner is whoever has the most Stars at the end of the game.
In Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS games, Power Stars are spread throughtout the worlds, and Mario (or in the DS remake, Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, and Wario) is sent to go find them all. There are an average of about 10 power stars to collect in each world, and after finding most of them, the end boss, Bowser, is unlocked.
Other Mario games, including the Super Mario World series and the Mario Kart series, use the Super Star (a variation of the Power Star) in a different manner then Mario Party. After picking up a Super Star, via item box or collecting it bouncing around, the user becomes temporarily invlunerable to all damage, except those of lava, deep water, falling, etc. Any projectiles or enemies that come into contact with the user of the Super Star while it is activate are either destroyed, damaged, or spun out (depending on the type of enemy and what game you are playing). The Super Star also increases the speed of the user substantially. The Super Star is undoubtably one of the most powerful items in the Mario universe.
