Character Spaces were used in Mario Party 6 and Mario Party 7 and are not to be confused with Capsule Spaces. Players made them by placing one of their Orbs on a space on the board. This made the space theirs, and had a picture of their heads to show that they owned it (in Mario Party 7, it was their icons). There were two types of Character Spaces: Normal and Roadblock.

Normal Character Spaces consisted of Orbs such as the Spiny Orb, and the Pink Boo Orb and remained on the board until someone put another orb on it. Opponents who landed here triggered the Orb, and they had to give whatever the space requested to the owner of that space. Players that landed on their own Character Space received five coins (15 in the last 4 or 5 turns).

Roadblock Character Spaces were not permanent. They were more like traps set for an opponent. Any rival that passed an opponent's Roadblock Space triggered the trap, and had to pay the price. Players that passed by their own Roadblocks were unaffected.

Character Spaces came back in Mario Party DS. When a Hex is set, the space where it is set changes into the Character Space of the one who set it. But, if you set it, the space changes into the Hex that you set.
