Talk:Sal Out

To my knowledge, "komori" (her Japanese name) can be a shortened form of "hikikomori", which refers to a person who isolates themself. Seems unfitting, but are there any accurate translations for it, or is it really just meant to be an average name? Leirin 21:21, 27 March 2009 (EDT) Artwork of Nastasia from Super Paper Mario LEIRIN

Two Sal Outs?

Apparently, the astronaut Sal Out from Touched! has a different Japanese name (Yasuko) from the Sal Out in other games (Nao Komori). Nao Komori, as far as I can tell, went unnamed in English until Game & Wario, where she was given the same name as Yasuko. Considering their different appearances and Japanese names (and voices, I guess), it seems like what happened in Game & Wario was a mistake. So, should the two be split or what? I don't think so. Looking at the images, the Astronaut one looks just like the singer one and everyone received different appearances in Game & Wario anyways. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 09:04, August 18, 2023 (EDT)

Split the Sal Outs

This is a weird one, so bear with me. In short, there are two characters in the WarioWare series with the English name "Sal Out". To explain how this happened, let's go look at this chronologically:

  • WarioWare: Twisted!: the first character makes her debut in this game in 2004, where she sings Mona Pizza, the background music to Mona's stage. She is named Nao Komori in Japanese, but strangely goes unnamed in the English version.
  • WarioWare: Touched!: the second character makes her debut in this game also in 2004, where she sings Mike's Theme, the background music to Mike's stage, notably having a different singing voice to the first character in both English and Japanese. She is named Yasuko in Japanese and Sal Out in English. The character from Twisted! also reappears in the Mona Pizza souvenir.
  • In 2008, this wiki article is created, under the name Sal Out, and, for some reason, mistakenly treats the two characters as being the same.
  • Game & Wario: the character from Twisted! reappears in this game in 2013. She is again named Nao Komori in Japanese, but is now referred to in English as...also Sal Out. This is just speculation, but given the timing of this appearance, I'd say it's likely that this might have been influenced by the wiki's treatment of these characters.

It is truly an odd situation, but given all this, I propose that the character from WarioWare: Touched! be split from this page as Sal Out (WarioWare: Touched!).

Not quite as simple as that, actually... The Mona Pizza souvenir in Touched! also features the original depiction of Sal Out. It's hard to tell considering the different scales of the sprites and, well, the space suit, but the designs look pretty much the same. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! You're right, I forgot, the character from Twisted! also appears in Touched!. And it's true that the two look very similar (they even both have a red heart shape on their outfits). I assume that's a big part of why the user that created the article lumped them together in the first place. May I ask what you're trying to get at? Because I'm not sure what to say other than "yep, that is indeed factually correct". Blinker (talk) 07:04, March 6, 2025 (EST)
I guess I can add this context to the proposal body. Blinker (talk) 10:55, March 6, 2025 (EST)
Mostly just making sure all the facts are understood here, and was curious what you as the proposer thought about that info in relation to the proposal. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 16:17, March 6, 2025 (EST)

@PrincessPeachFan Clear how? And how do you explain the different names then? Blinker (talk) 10:55, March 6, 2025 (EST)

From the images, it's pretty clear she underwent a redesign. This isn't the first time that a character has swapped Japanese names either. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 14:36, March 6, 2025 (EST)
Um, you do realize just saying "from the images, it's pretty clear" isn't exactly helpful? And when else has a WarioWare character just randomly changed names like this? Or, what renames are you thinking of? Blinker (talk) 14:49, March 6, 2025 (EST)
