Gallery talk:Super Mario Bros. 3
Is this really Neccesary?
If you're asking about the gallery, yes it is. A proposal was made to create a gallery for the main articles' images like this.

is this correct?
I found a picture of a buzzy beetle in the gallery that looks like the one from Super Mario Bros.. Because i've never played the game I don't know if this is how it looks in the game.
- They do look the same, yes. But the difference is the artwork for the one shown in this gallery is upside down on the ceiling, which is a trait the Buzzy Beetles started having since SMB3. As for the sprite, it's totally possible that they copied over the sprite itself and just touched it up a bit. (Alex95 (talk) 16:59, 7 January 2016 (EST))
Well, only the head, front feet, and colors were changed, if you mean the sprite. User:Davey/sig
Unreleased PC Port
Since sprites for the Piranha Plant, Goomba, and Super Mushroom are there, I was wondering if it would be allowed to rip the Troopa and Paratroopa sprites from that Vimeo Vid, as I assume that's how those were obtained. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:35, 12 January 2018 (EST)

Regarding the PC Demo
Does that actually fall within our coverage outside of perhaps the unreleased media page? It was never greenlit by Nintendo, so it seems odd to keep the sprites in the same place as official releases, since ultimately it was a fan gam they unsuccessfully tried to have Nintendo adopt (akin to the more successful Mega Man/3 DOS ventures with Capcom which kinda sucked). Yeah honestly now that I think about it I don't think they should be there either, even though I was the one to put them there in the first place, but yeah they should probably be removed just to be safe. --Mariofan9000 (talk) 11:00, January 9, 2021 (EST)
rawsize and transparent pixels

Howdy, @Doc von Schmeltwick. I know you have been making a lot of extensive revisions to this gallery, and it clear that these contributions must have taken you an appreciated amount of time display. However, multiple users have expressed that they preferred how the gallery looked when all of the thumbnails for the sprites were the same scale - similar to how we display artwork - and were not so small. Folks have difficult seeing these assets at this scale, unlike the previous iteration of the gallery. And while I assume you intend to provide colored backgrounds for the thumbnails of sprites with empty textures, there are folks - including ones who also rip sprites and one who is involved in pixel-based game development - who question why this is necessary at all. I think we should go back to a display that most people prefer. I brought it up here because I though this would be a better platform for more people to be involved with if they would like. - Nintendo101 (talk) 21:01, February 19, 2025 (EST)
- I'm fine changing the rawsize to be more per-sprite in how they are sized so the smaller ones are bigger in the frames. Some are probably gonna be flashy, though, like the Missile Bills, and I'm more comfortable having those in particular be smaller. As for the transparency thing... I mean, as far as I'm aware, we're supposed to communicate things how they are, not necessarily how people expect them to be. Several of the unused tiles only differ from the used ones in how their transparency looks, some have interesting inconsistencies with where their transparency meets solid pixels of the same color , and overall, adding nonexistent black pixels there would feel like adding in Bowser's armbands , another notable example of transparency standing in for black. This is particularly notable during screen flashes; when you use the warp whistle, for example, all solid pixels become white for a moment, while the transparent ones stay black, and for sprites, you can still see the background through them - even for tiles, if the background changes color (such as when an explosion happens), that color change will go right through the transparent "black." - Have you tried integrating backgrounds like so? At least for subjects that occur in dark areas like the Bowser Statue sprite?
- I cannot speak to this myself as someone who does not rip sprites, but some folks who do have experience in that area do not think some of these are accurate. Maybe they can chime in. - Nintendo101 (talk) 22:33, February 19, 2025 (EST)
