Where to put it?

I added a new album, White Knuckle Scorin', to arranged albums, but I'm not sure where it belongs. White Knuckle Scorin' really only has one Mario song "Ignorance is Bliss." What category would the song fall under? --Wanderingshadow 08:16, 28 November 2006 (EST)

Relevancy?

I really don't see how relevant this can be. Most of this is just "this song was used here". Only a few things have links to downloads. I say it's really not worth keeping as a seperate page. Evan

I think we should keep the page, but remove the link from the Main Page, because as Evan said, this isn't very relevant nor is it a good page. However, it does provide a central hub for the different music pages, so it should probably be kept as an article. --Son of Suns 14:58, 3 June 2006 (EDT)

What are these .ogg files?

Is it worth having articles for specific and re-accuring Mario themes (Such as Kooper road, Super Mario Bros overworld, Starman theme etc) and listing what games they turn up and when, you could say the theme has to appear in at least 3 Mario titles to have its own article. I think this is essential infomation about the Mario verse which is not included here, obviously it is a huge undertaking, but it surely shouldn't stop us.

This is something ive been trying to do recently (Only with the Super Mario Bros overworld) and ive got a list of 30 odd official remixes of it from different games, from the original to Super Mario world and Sonic and Mario at the winter Olympics. Hunter Class 01:58, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Quotation marks

Despite the failure of this proposal, the vast majority of album articles listed on this page (67 of them, by my count) do not use quotation marks in the track listings, with eight exceptions (Super Mario Sunshine Original Soundtrack, Rare Treats: DONKEY KONG 64 Revisited, Nintendo Sound Adventures, Super Mario Bros.: Favorite Mushroom Party Hits!!!, White Knuckle Scorin', Donkey Kong Hits, Club Nintendo Hits, Super Mario Dance). The List of Super Mario tracks on Nintendo Music, meanwhile, does include quotation marks. What gives? My preferred solution would be to not use quotation marks in the track listings and instead only use them in running text, but I'm not sure if that would be allowed considering the result of that proposal. Remove quotation marks from tracklists

See section above. First off, I want to be very clear that this is NOT the same proposal as this similar one that failed a few months back. While that proposal was about completely removing quotation marks from all instances of song names, this one is narrower and is only about removing them from track listings. Affected pages are every page on the list of albums, plus List of Super Mario tracks on Nintendo Music.

I can understand the rationale for using quotation marks when mentioning song titles in running text, as it distinguishes them to make it more clear to the reader that they are titles of tracks, especially since many tracks in the Super Mario franchise share their names with other subjects. This makes sense and is helpful to readers. However, in the context of a track listing specifically, the quotation marks are significantly less helpful because it's already obvious to the reader that they are the names of tracks, and it could give the misleading impression that the speech marks are actually part of the official titles. When you have a table for a tracklist with a field for the name of the track, I don't think it should contain anything but the actual name of the track. I believe this is the same reason (or at least similar) for us not using the quotation marks in article titles.

The biggest reason I think this is a good idea, though, is for cases of tracks that do actually have quotation marks in their official titles, forcing us to put two sets of quotation marks around the name. For example, see ""Hurry Up!"" and ""It's-a Me, Mario!"". This looks silly, clunky, and confusing, the polar opposite of the quotation marks' intended purpose of adding clarity.

Also note that, as I explained in the above section, what I am proposing is already the standard on the wiki, with about 67 album pages not using the quotation marks in track lists, which I personally think makes them look much neater and better compared to the nine outliers (eight albums + the Nintendo Music list). The point of this proposal is to make this standard into formal policy and resolve the inconsistency here.

So, three options:

• Support - remove quotation marks from the track listings on the eight album pages that already have them, as well on the List of Super Mario tracks on Nintendo Music.
• Oppose - add quotation marks to the track listings on the 67 album pages that don't currently have them.
• Do nothing - no standard is established and we continue with our current random and inconsistent ways (obviously the wrong option but I have to include it anyway).

To reiterate, this proposal has nothing to do with usage of quotation marks in running text, it is only about usage in lists of track names. The track lists on the main Nintendo Music page in the sections about playlists will also be unaffected, since the quotation marks actually serve a purpose there (to separate the track names from the game titles).

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot about the various sound test pages. Currently, zero of these use the quotation marks, so they'd be unaffected by option 1, but I suppose they'd have them added for consistency if option 2 were to pass.

These don't currently use quotation marks, but may be changed if the second option were to win (the record lists probably wouldn't at least, since we don't normally use quotation marks for those even in running text). @Arend: I wouldn't be opposed to that, but a funny thing there is that the List of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 songs oddly doesn't use quotation marks for the songs despite being written in prose, while the episode titles do use them.
