Criteria?[edit]

What are the criteria for a character being included on this list? It seems to be more restrictive than Category:Playable characters, but I can't see any pattern in the characters that have been excluded. Some miscellaneous observations:

I don't think this page has been very defined yet. Metal Mario is arguably first playable in Super Mario 64 as a form, but I assume the page deals with like a sort of permanent stand-alone character, like a character you pick on a menu, rather than a temporary form (however this has counter examples such as temporarily playable Toad or Master Hand). I think in the end, it's probably better to just list playable rosters than try to pick out who's first playable in what game.
Oh how is "playable character" even defined? For instance, should we include mounts such as horses and Yoshi? Horses are basically customizable characters on a roster in Mario Sports Superstars and they're controllable in a standalone mode; you're not even picking a character, it's only the player and the horse. But it feels like this list is for named characters and Mario species. Mario It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 14:51, June 7, 2024 (EDT)

should "Purple Captain Toad" from Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Nintendo Switch version be here?[edit]

If no, then we should also remove Junior (II)

He should. I'll add him. Weegie baby (talk) 12:58, November 14, 2024 (EST)
