A Mario Kart game for the Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed alongside the system in a "first-look" trailer released on January 16, 2025. It was the first Super Mario game announced for the system. The art style of the game's characters appears to have changed significantly, resembling that of the 2D illustrations drawn by Shigehisa Nakaue, much like the in-game art style of Super Mario Bros. Wonder. The number of racers per race was increased to 24 compared to the previous 12. Tracks appear to have multiple routes blocked off with barriers, similar to Mario Kart Tour's course variants and certain courses in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass where routes would change each lap. The scope and scale of tracks also appears to be larger than in past Mario Kart entries, with wider and longer courses. Additionally, characters who would automatically wear racing suits on bikes such as Princess Peach are shown wearing their standard clothing.[1]
