Fuses are obstacles of the Qix games. They are Sparx created on the player's line if the player stops for a long time while the line is being made. The fuse will depart from the attached line and will reach the Marker, causing a life loss if it manages to reach it.

In the first storyline of the Super Mario Land 4 manga, Mario and his friends are challenged by Qix Daiō into facing three minions in a real-life game of Qix. One singular Fuse appears in the story: during Peach's turn, between escaping the Qix and the Sparx, she sits to catch her breath, only to be eliminated when a Fuse sneaks up on her, blowing her out of the arena. Like the Sparx, the Fuse is depicted with an angry face, but with bigger eyes and a malicious smile.
