Totally tubular Toads
Toad. The one and only. The mushroom, the myth, the legend. Far from generic, Toad is a timeless classic. Many say he's nameless, or merely a Toad named Toad, but it goes deeper than that; he's not just a Toad, he IS Toad. All other Toads are variants of him, roles played by this metanarrative actor-character. As himself, he's everywhere, he's nowhere, he's right here. Sometimes green and pink to promote console covers, sometimes blue to keep color balance between players, but don't get confused, he is no Blue Toad.
Toadsworth. Peach's reliable butler, except when he takes leaves of absence of years at a time. While never really an important character in the plot of any game, he always helps set up the scene for today's adventure. He might be a single man, but his presence is representative of Peach's whole entourage; he can singlehandedly turn a romantic escapade of Peach and Mario into a big event involving the whole court to which Mario happens to be invited. He may not be much, but he represents many.
