More Ground Shapes

Ground Environment can come in one style in different forms depending on the shape of it. It may be a single block, a thin 1x1 line, orthogonal or diagonal, a thicker 2x2 line or chunk, 3x3 and so on. Lines can also cross with each other, resulting various junctions. Chunks can contain holes, slopes or even "sprouts". Ground can even come in form of different letters, numbers and characters. And finally, polyominoes. Monomino, domino, trominoes, tetrominoes, and so on until decominoes. Maybe let's make another gallery for various shapes of the Super Mario Maker 2 Ground Blocks? Or just expand this gallery? I'm not sure I follow. Are you suggesting adding images for the countless ways ground can be formed? The point of the gallery is to simply show the different ground designs in the game. Zero Suit Samus costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 09:42, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
I don't know. I'm very excited to see grounds in all these forms. For example, in SMB Sky 1 block wide line doesn't look like clouds anymore, but like orange bridge. And SMB3 Underwater? Its ground is the most complicated! Maybe I should add a list of these formations, but still I would like to see Ground shapes in all styles User:NikitaGamer64/sig 16:53, 23 June 2020 (EST)
I found the sprites here. --JumpPumpkinPlant SMW.pngDarkNightPiranha Plant in Fall 16:32, July 24, 2020 (EDT)

What should we do with this gallery?

As of now, this gallery page is identical to the gallery section in Ground (block), making it pretty much useless. The only difference is that Ground (block) sorts the sprites by theme, while this gallery sorts them by game. Here are the 3 options:

  1. Remove the gallery page.
  2. Trim the gallery section of Ground (block), keeping only the Ground theme sprites and adding a link to the gallery page.
  3. No change

Remove the gallery page

  1. Axis (talk) Per proposal.
  2. DrBaskerville (talk) Per proposal. For something as minor as this, having the gallery included on the main page makes more sense than a separate page for a gallery.
  3. Hewer (talk) Per MarioWiki:Once and only once, the separate gallery is pointless, and I feel like neither the Ground article nor the gallery itself is large enough to justify a split gallery.

Trim the gallery section

  1. Axis (talk) Per proposal.
  2. Mario (talk) I would just make the gallery page link from Ground (block) and relocate the images on Ground (block) to Gallery:Ground (rename to Gallery:Ground (block) if needed), and then trim the images from Ground (block). And then we can possibly add tiles from other games to this gallery, but it might be going a bit far in terms of making the wiki look like an asset dump.

No change

  1. DrBaskerville (talk) Second choice as I think trimming the images from the block page would be more of a mistake than to leave a redundant gallery.
  2. Shadow2 (talk) Per reasoning below, with the caveat that the page should be renamed.

Comments

I think this gallery is perfectly valid to stay, but it needs a more accurate name. Just "Ground" refers to a near-infinite amount of "stuff you walk on" among the hundred-odd Mario games. Nothing in the title specifies that this only refers to SMM2, so if it were renamed to something more specific, it would make much more sense. Shadow2 (talk) 17:42, July 1, 2024 (EDT)

How do you justify the redundancy of having two galleries with identical images? Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 06:17, July 2, 2024 (EDT)
