Some things
Hey welcome. Noticing you're having some mistakes with writing. I recommend you go over MarioWiki:Manual of Style, but here's some quick things:
- Italics are used for media titles, such as game names. They are not used for subjects like Gold Mario.
- Bolds are used for the first instance of a subject on the subject's page. For example, the first use of "Mario" on Mario's page.
- "It's" means "it is", "its" is used possessively (English, yay).
- Be sure to double check your writing for typos, the software will usually point out misspellings.
Thank you and keep contributing. 13:34, April 26, 2021 (EDT)
- Thanks, but the "it's/its part is just a mistake.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 18:53, April 27, 2021 (EDT)
Can you explain where or how you're getting this information? Both of these are false. Mario JC 06:07, April 27, 2021 (EDT) I
- I remember seeing a video showing both of these facts being true. Here's the link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qe66gZTjeSI
At 1:57, you can see SMB2 Mario take damage by getting a Super Mushroom.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 18:53, April 27, 2021 (EDT)
- That's Mario hitting the spikes below the Mushroom, taking damage and then picking the Mushroom up. This also has nothing to do with getting 1110 lives in NSMBW. Mario JC 21:28, April 27, 2021 (EDT)
Make sure you're also italicising media titles per MarioWiki:Manual of Style#Italicizing titles and as Alex mentioned above. For example, Super Mario Bros. 2 should be formatted as Super Mario Bros. 2. Mario JC 21:41, April 27, 2021 (EDT)
Don't abbreviate either. SMM should be written in full as Super Mario Maker, SMM2 as Super Mario Maker 2 etc. Mario JC
Just be aware that you're still using "it's" in cases where you should be using "its" (e.g. "its remake"). Mario JC 07:17, May 13, 2021 (EDT)
"Ressemble" is spelled "resemble" with one "s". Mario JC 21:11, May 13, 2021 (EDT)
Please stop using "it's" instead of "its" on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing. If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
You did that on your latest edit on the Boomerang Bro article. Nightwicked Bowser 10:33, May 23, 2021 (EDT)
- If you keep doing this from this point, you will be given a warning. Also, in one of your recent Cat Mario edits, you also used "to" when it should be "two". Nightwicked Bowser 13:35, May 27, 2021 (EDT)
- Okay, okay, I'm sorry, I don't mean to.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 13:39, May 27, 2021 (EDT)
- That's why you should proofread your edits (especially large paragraphs), as you're sometimes leaving misspellings. Mario JC 22:18, May 27, 2021 (EDT)
This is a warning to stop your inappropriate behavior (forgetting grammar (its vs. it's) after multiple reminders) on the Super Mario Wiki. Please adhere to the rules or you will be blocked from editing this site. If you feel this warning was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
Mario JC 06:52, June 2, 2021 (EDT)
This is your last warning. The next time you break the rules in any way, you will be blocked from editing the Super Mario Wiki. If you feel this last warning was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
Don't change instances of "its" to "it's" either. Nightwicked Bowser 08:21, June 6, 2021 (EDT)
Couple more things
When adding the port's title to section headers, they should be formatted like this: Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. So in short, italics must still be placed before and after the slash. Also, don't use contractions in mainspace articles, words should be written in full e.g "do not" instead of "don't". Nightwicked Bowser 20:33, May 4, 2021 (EDT)
Checking edits
Please check over your edits before leaving them. A large edit like the one you made on Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury should have been something you'd look over first (especially on an article being improved upon for a FA nomination), and you should have noticed the images had their widths unspecified and were too big. Next time, use the "Show preview" button to see what your edits look like before saving them, and once you're satisfied with them, click "Save changes". Mario JC 00:40, May 6, 2021 (EDT)
- I did, but the device I used didn't show that they were that big. Sorry.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 08:24, May 6, 2021 (EDT)
You forgot to specify the width again for the Long ? Block image in your last edit. I strongly suggest you switch to desktop mode when making edits like this so you can check if the image size, alignment etc. looks right in that mode. Mario JC 22:07, May 17, 2021 (EDT)
- You’re right, I should. Thanks for suggesting.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 07:39, May 18, 2021 (EDT)
Adding items to tables
Hello there. Thanks for adding extra items to the Bowser's Fury main page, but I wanted to let you know that those tables for enemies and objects are typically in alphabetical order, even if related objects like Jump Panels and Red Jump Panels aren't grouped together. Keep that in mind the next time you edit them. 0blivion (talk) 10:53, May 12, 2021 (EDT)
- Okay, thanks for letting me know.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 11:16, May 12, 2021 (EDT)
Multiple and minor edits
My watchlist page has many edits you've made in a small span of time. I know that you can't typically add everything you want to add to a page in one edit, but I think it would be helpful to plan what parts you're going to add all at once, to lessen the number of times a page is edited in one session. You can use the Show preview button below the edit box to see the article change without actually editing it yet. I use it frequently to make sure that my edits look correct, and that I'm not missing something.
Sometimes I realize I need to fix something after I submit the edit. If you're making very small corrections, or edits that otherwise don't add to the content of the article, it would be good to mark them as minor edits, using the checkbox below the edit box. 0blivion (talk) 12:04, May 13, 2021 (EDT)
- Okay.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 12:34, May 13, 2021 (EDT)
Trivia
I would suggest reading over MarioWiki:Trivia. Avoid adding information straight to trivia and see if you can incorporate it somewhere else in the article like the History sections first. Try to also avoid adding trivia that's already mentioned in the article and unnoteworthy tidbits in general (like listing similar traits between two forms). Mario JC 21:34, May 13, 2021 (EDT)
I've already linked the policy page explaining why this is discouraged. Also, in the future, don't edit an old revision to the page; this is indicated by a warning at the top that reads "You are editing an out-of-date revision of this page", and by doing this, you erase every edit made after it. Please be more careful editing next time and make use of the "Show preview" and "Show changes" buttons (a number of the edits on Mario's page especially were clumsy). Mario JC 23:11, August 11, 2021 (EDT)
Bowser's Fury images
I'm planning to open Bowser's Fury and take images for what I hope can be the last time. Currently, I'm taking pictures of a Cloud Lift, Fire Bar, and Spike Roller, as well as the title screen and menus for the main campaign. If there's anything else you're planning to add to the tables on the main page, or another image that would be good in general, please let me know. 0blivion (talk) 12:07, May 14, 2021 (EDT)
- Okay, I will. I’m sorry if I’m annoying you.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 16:36, May 14, 2021 (EDT)
- I have one in mind now. Now it's Spike Traps.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 09:02, May 29, 2021 (EDT)
- Now it's Bubbles.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 09:02, May 29, 2021 (EDT)

Game title headers
Try to be careful when placing italics in section headers. If you're missing the closing apostrophes like here, it causes most of the page to be italicised (this happens in desktop mode but in mobile mode you'll notice all of the sections are uncollapsed and their headers italicised). Mario JC 22:43, May 15, 2021 (EDT)
Redirect template
The template is only to be used if the term in question is actually a redirect link to that page. "Super Mario" is not a redirect to the Mario page, and "Koopa King" is not a redirect to the Bowser page, so a redirect template for those terms on those respective pages are not to be used. You may want to search those terms to check yourself before putting that template on articles. Nightwicked Bowser 08:51, May 24, 2021 (EDT)
New articles
Please keep in mind when creating new articles that they should have navigation templates and categories (see the corresponding sections on MarioWiki:Manual of Style). If none exist yet (because it's an upcoming subject, for example), that's fine, but there are other, already existing categories that should be added, like "Category:Allies" and "Category:Rabbids". Mario JC 09:04, June 14, 2021 (EDT)
- Okay, thanks for letting me know.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 09:20, June 14, 2021 (EDT)
- You still forgot this despite acknowledging it. You need to switch to desktop mode to see the categories but you're still able to add them to the article. You're also still misspelling "resemble" as "ressemble". Mario JC 21:49, June 19, 2021 (EDT)
Please recall this message, your last few articles were still missing navigation templates and categories. Mario JC 07:06, October 27, 2023 (EDT)
Section headers
Keep in mind that any section headers that are categorised under another section header should be one level under it. e.g. "Super Smash Bros. series" is a level-3 header (three equal signs):
Super Smash Bros. series
so any games under it like Super Smash Bros. Melee should be level 4 (four equal signs):
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Image categories
Hello, Giga Cat Weegee. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:
When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use: or Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
After removing uncategorized, make sure you replace it with the appropriate game category link (in the case of your recent uploads,
).
Also, avoid adding each image to a page or gallery one at a time, as this floods the history page; instead, you can make all of your uploads first and then add them all at once. Mario JC 21:35, August 16, 2021 (EDT)
- Yeah, that would be a good idea. Thanks for suggesting.Giga Cat Weegee (talk) 11:25, August 17, 2021 (EDT)
RE:Hello!
As long as you mark them as personal images, it should be fine. See this policy page for more information. (T|C) 09:33, August 6, 2022 (EDT)
Excessive linking
Be aware of the pages you're linking to when adding links. Don't link generic objects to other, unrelated objects in a different context (e.g. linking a generic "pickaxe" used by the green Toad in SMG to the pickaxe from Super Mario Party, which is unrelated), or to disambiguation pages like ghost and fire. These don't help the reader.
Make sure links also lead to the correct subject (e.g. Poison is a disambig. page; the hazardous liquid "poison" should be linked to Poison (obstacle)). Mario JC 00:20, November 4, 2023 (EDT)
