These blocks not only behave the same as Jump Blocks from other games, but they're actually called Jump Blocks in Mario Party 9, so this is more or less a one-off redesign. The main difference cited in the article is that White-Green Checkered Blocks don't drop items, but that's not something that was always done with Jump Blocks.
