Monty Mole 2-7-2
Pūko is shown to look like both a Monty Mole and Rocky Wrench so should they be both or one or the other?

Proposer: MontyMoleLoreMaster (talk)
Deadline: November 4, 2021, 23:59 GMT

Option 1: Pūko is both a Monty Mole and a Rocky Wrench[edit]

  1. MontyMoleLoreMaster (talk) Since she is shown to look like a Monty Mole and a Rocky Wrench it is possible that she is both.
  2. LinkTheLefty (talk) I'm gonna go with the probable real-world explanation on this one: Yukio Sawada probably fully intended to use the name Pūko for a Rocky Wrench, but then sometime between chapters changed his mind and thought having her as a Monty Mole would be more thematically appropriate for the next appearance.

Option 2: Pūko is only a Monty Mole and not a Rocky Wrench[edit]

  1. Swallow (talk) Apparently this was confirmed by Mario jc.
  2. Sdman213 (talk) Per Swallow, the confirmation is on your talk page Monty.
  3. Waluigi Time (talk) Per all.
  4. Mario jc (talk) Per my comment here; she mentions the festival-goers being Monty Moles and lends Mario a suit "passed down for generations in the Monty Mole family."
  5. Archivist Toadette (talk) Per Mario jc.
  6. Hewer (talk) Per all, she hardly even looks like a Rocky Wrench.
  7. OhoJeeOnFire (talk) Obviously a Monty mole. Rocky Wrenches belong on airships. This character belongs on a concert hall. Per all.

Option 3: Pūko is only a Rocky Wrench and not a Monty Mole[edit]

  1. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) Is Pūko, not Choropūko. It's not like the goggles are an anatomical part of them.
  2. FanOfYoshi (talk) Per Doc von Schmeltwick.

Comments[edit]

Hey Doc von Schmeltwick how you worded your point sounded weird and confusing. Mind explaining what you meant? MontyMoleLoreMaster (talk) 20:00, October 21, 2021 (EDT)

@Doc von Schmeltwick The "Pū" in her name can be short for "Choropū", similar to the other AKG48 members, e.g. "Kuri" (from "Kuribō") in "Kurimina", a Goomba, and "Fugu" (from "Fugumannen") in "Fugumayuyu", a Porcupuffer. Goggles can still be taken off, though. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 11:22, October 22, 2021 (EDT)
Goggles could've also been...put on, like as part of a stage persona. Or the artist simply intended for Pūko to be a Rocky Wrench, befitting her name over the taken Choropūko, but soon decided depicting her as a Monty Mole in that chapter would fit the theme better. Either explanation is possible, though personally I think the latter is most likely. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:07, October 22, 2021 (EDT)

Also the fact that the name Choropūko was already used for another female Monty Mole in a earlier volume. She is probably named Pūko because they didn’t want to copy off another name and to confuse the continuity. Also I have a small theory that she had those Rocky Wrench goggles in the earlier chapter for the photo to use as a cosplay or something. MontyMoleLoreMaster (talk) 22:27, October 21, 2021 (EDT)

@Mario jc What's the word used for "family" in that quote? If it's 「ー族」 (ichizoku) like Turtle Tribe, I'd probably use "clan" as a closer translation. If that's the case, maybe Super Mario-kun considers Rocky Wrench to be a variant of Monty Mole by this point, like the related Morty Mole that shows up? (Note that I think the current classification is fine if true because of it historically being the other way around.) LinkTheLefty (talk) 10:10, October 22, 2021 (EDT)

Even beyond that, considering Shellcreeper's been listed as part of the Turtle Tribe while being the absolute base behind that, perhaps Poo could be in a similar situation. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 11:22, October 22, 2021 (EDT)
I took Shellcreeper being listed as a Turtle Tribe member moreso for the purposes of simplifying their categorization, but fair enough. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:07, October 22, 2021 (EDT)

I just wanted to say that the Mole Festival seems to be in a area similar to 5-4 from 3D Land. A Rocky Wrench does appear in 5-4 from 3D Land so Rocky Wrenches have appeared in a couple non-airship areas like some 3D Land levels. Im fine with her being just a Monty Mole, but it is just something I wanted to add. MontyMoleLoreMaster (talk) 18:02, November 1, 2021 (EDT)

@OhoJeeOnFire - Rocky Wrenches have appeared outside of airships, and as the LoreMaster mentioned, there were a few instances of such in Super Mario 3D Land, which Super Mario-kun was adapting. LinkTheLefty (talk) 22:07, November 3, 2021 (EDT)

What I meant was that they belong there, like Bloopers to underwater levels and lava bubbles to castle levels. Red Oho Jee from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. OhoJeeOnFire (talk)
That is their natural habitat, but they don't have to be strictly confined to those environments. Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 20:08, November 4, 2021 (EDT)
That makes sense. For example, the Super Mario Maker series. They could be in other environments if the player wants, but they are most commonly used on airships. Red Oho Jee from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. OhoJeeOnFire (talk)
