The status effect as it appears in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is almost nothing like it is in other Mario RPGs. In fact, the only real similarities are what would probably be expected: that they are inflicted from ice-based attacks, and that they're represented by the victim at least partially being frozen in a block of ice. They don't even come close to having the same effect on the player. So yeah, I'd say this is fair game for a split.
