Anagrams

Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)

Hey all, welcome to March's edition of anagrams. This month, I've folded up a wad of Paper Mario: The Origami King anagrams for you all to have a go at solving- hopefully you make the papercut and they're a crease of cake! If you'd like to suggest a theme, or even a Mario-related anagram you've come up with, for a future issue, please let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums, I'd be sure to work them into an upcoming section. And with that, I'll let you get printer these anagrams!

How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!

Word Search

Written by: Shoey (talk)

Hello and welcome to another exciting Word Search. So I was running the numbers on one of my other sections What's in a Campaign?, a Pipe Plaza section where I cover robots from the hit show Robot Wars (shameless plug). One thing I noticed was the two most neglected series were the first and second wars. While I think Series 2 has potential for future sections, Series 1 sadly doesn't because of the different format Series 1 has where each robot only has a max of three fights and the grand final was dominated by a robot I already covered. So I decided to cover a few Series 1 in a word search, since I probably won't get the chance again. So here's a word search on a selection of twelve Series 1 robots! Words can be found vertically, horizontally, diagonally, and backwards! As always have fun and stay safe!

Hiding Koopa

Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)

Hello there, 'Shroom readers! It's March, which means it's the start of spring (depending on where you live and if the weather isn't pretending it's still winter), which means it's time to start taking care of the lawn! But instead of doing it in real life, because that's boring and a lot of work, we're going to do it virtually in what's sure to be the hit game of 2024, Lawn Mowing Simulator, now available on Nintendo Switch! Yes, this is actually a thing that I found on Nintendo's website, and I couldn't live with myself if I didn't use it for Hiding Koopa because it's funny. Five Koopas are hiding in the soon to be mowed landscape, can you find them all? (Beware of allergies...)

Koopa Troopa from Mario Kart 8.

Connections

Written by: Roserade (talk)

Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome to the March 2024 edition of Connections! Spring cleaning is upon us, and I've gotta organize these terms into their right categories! Do you want to lend me a hand?

How it works:
Below is a table of sixteen different words, all of them with some sort of connection to the Mario series. These words correlate in sets of four, and it's up to you to figure out which words belong to a set! Work through the grid and decide which words are connected. Once you think you have the answer, check against the provided answers. If you get stuck along the way, feel free to utilize the clues. There's only one correct answer, so be on the lookout for words that feel like they might fit in more than one category. Good luck!

Topsy Lunge Plane Ninja
Super Cookie Mermaid Spray
Cloud Rip Van Paper Safari
Story Flopsy Mighty Detective
Clue 1

Start with "Rip Van"

Clue 2

Getting this right would be just peachy...

Clue 3

Mean green eating machine!

Answer
  1. Rip Van, Lunge, Spray, Flopsy: ___ Fish
  2. Ninja, Mermaid, Mighty, Detective: Princess Peach: Showtime! costume transformations
  3. Topsy, Cookie, Safari, Story: words found in Yoshi game titles
  4. Plane, Super, Cloud, Paper: Mario Kart 8 gliders

How did you do? Did you figure out the connections? Thanks for playing!

Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?

Written by: FunkyK38 (talk)

HOW TO PLAY

Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!

You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!

Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.

Challenge round (optional):

-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less

-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help

No one will be getting inside that door!

“The Shiny Stone is missing, gumshoe, and I’m not talking about the ones from Pokémon. Mario has reported that the Shiny Stone, an item from Super Mario RPG and its recent remaster, has gone missing, and he suspects that it has been stolen by one of Carmen’s henchmen. The Shiny Stone, while not a plot-critical item, is key to unlocking (literally) one of the more famous boss battles in this game: Culex, the crystal-wielding superboss. Without this stone, Mario and his party cannot open the door to Culex’s arena, and the battle cannot be fought at all. Denying access to a fan-favorite superboss is a recipe for disaster, gumshoe, so we have to get to work finding that rock! Intel coming in says that one of Carmen’s high-up crooks is behind this caper, a master of disguise rivalling the woman in red herself. This one will be slippery, gumshoe, but we need to get the stone back and solve this case!”

CLUE 2

CASE CLOSED

HIDEOUT ANSWER: Swaying Ruins from Super Mario Bros. Wonder Another Uncharted Area: Swaying Ruins' Wonder Effect

Let's stand up to the superboss!

“We slipped and bounce through the door just in time, gumshoe. Carmen’s agent left the stone to avoid getting captured- she must have know we were right behind her. We haven’t gotten any reports of Carmen herself being sighted here, but with all the fungus everywhere, it’s hard to tell. A disappointing chase, but at least we managed to retrieve the stone. Mario is eternally thankful for your help, gumshoe. He and the party can access Culex’s arena now, and all is right in this Super Mario RPG. You’ve kept an entire audience from throwing the controller in rage at being denied access to a superboss! Which reminds me, Mario has decided to reward you with a lovely bunch of flowers- Bonus Flowers, that is. Make sure you keep them in water or they’ll wilt before you can use them. Good job, gumshoe, you’ve saved the day and saved the stone. Keep up the good work, and I’ll be in touch for your next case!”
