The PLAY WILD! Challenge is an event taking place in February and March 2024 in Japanese cities.[1] The event is a competition promoting Super Nintendo World and the upcoming Donkey Kong Country expansion at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka.[1]
Details
The event takes place on a stage; the left side is based on the main Super Mario-themed area of Super Nintendo World, while the right side is based on the Donkey Kong-themed Donkey Kong Country area. Two giant inflatable balloons of Mario and Donkey Kong are present on both sides of the stage.[2] Participants had to fill out a form on Universal Studios Japan's website until January 24, 2024 to enter the competition.[1] The event's opening ceremony featured Japanese YouTuber Hikakin and actress Suzu Yamanouchi as guests.[2]
The event consists in a competition where participants have to obtain the highest score in two challenges; the first one features ? Blocks, while the second features Bongos and is based on one of the Power-Up Band challenges at the park. During the challenges, some of the ? Blocks/Bongos will light up, and participants will have to hit them in time to obtain points while under a time limit. A sticker is given to participants at the end of a challenge with a design based on their score.[2]
Schedule
The PLAY WILD! Challenge took place in the following locations:[1]
- February 15 and 16, 2024 at Zōjō-ji in Tokyo.
- February 22 and 23, 2024 from 10:00 to 20:00 JST at the Hisaya-ōdōri Park in Nagoya.
- March 7 and 8, 2024 at the Fukuoka Tower square in Fukuoka.
