One thing

Can we keep this template? Woodchuck (talk) 10:49, 16 May 2017 (EDT)

Assuming this template isn't also lifted from another wiki, I think it can stay: . I feel that linking to wikia should be acceptable for non-videogame subject matter as well as third-party games not associated with Nintendo. Infact, we already have a wikia pipe markup that works like the old [[wikipedia:stuff|stuff]] methods and it's used on quite a few pages.

However the examples on the page should be changed to non-NIWA examples, and it should be stressed that we will prioritize linking to NIWA wikis as well as any other indie wiki on any other subject matters. If we pipe a link to "Optimus Prime", it should link to tfwiki dot net instead of the wikia, for example. --Glowsquid (talk) 11:08, 16 May 2017 (EDT)

Broken

None of the links seem to be working. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 21:05, 26 October 2018 (EDT)

That's because most of the community links now go to fandom.com now instead of wikia.com. Not every single community has been moved to the fandom domain name, but around 600 English wikis have moved there. – Owencrazyboy9 (talk) 21:52, 26 October 2018 (EDT)

Move "{{Wikia}}" to "{{Fandom}}"

Fandom launched in 2016 and Wikia was fully phasing out from 2018 to 2021. I was wondering if we could move the template "Wikia" to "Fandom".

Support

  1. GuntherBB (talk) Per proposal
  2. Arend (talk) I mean, the name "Wikia" has fallen out of use ever since it was renamed to FANDOM, so it makes sense. If there's an opposition to keep the template name, at least make Template:Fandom a redirect?
  3. RealStuffMister (talk) per proposal.
  4. Camwoodstock (talk) In the perfect world, the Wikia template would not need to exist as everyone would be able to easily bail on FANDOM's terrible management to have independent wikis. ...Until that day arrives, though, we can probably bear to update the template's name to be more reflective of the site's name post-rebranding. The most tedious part would simply be setting up a wiki bot to convert the templates, no joke.

Oppose

  1. PnnyCrygr (talk) Wikia is the more known name for such fan wikis, so we will retain the Wikia name. Besides, wouldn't moving the template create countless red links? My opposition.

Comments

@PnnyCrygr: Moving a page will result in the old name automatically becoming a redirect to the new name, so by default, moving a page does not create countless of red links. While it is possible for certain user groups (e.g. patrollers and administrators) to choose to not create a redirect from the old name when moving a page, regular users don't have that choice, so when they move a page, it'll never cause lots of red links.
Also, Fandom hasn't called any of the Wikis they host "Wikias" in a long time anymore, and yo be honest, I haven't seen the name "Wikia" for a while either. I won't say that no one uses that name anymore, but it's a bit of an artifact in the current day. ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 13:09, May 6, 2023 (EDT)

Also, there's a bot on the wiki that can automatically replace a given string of characters. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 13:27, May 6, 2023 (EDT)
