Silver Star
Silver Stars first appeared in Super Mario 64 DS and are a new feature to the game. They are basically a weaker and silver colored Power Star. In some levels the player must collect 5 to get a Power Star. They're found in almost every course and in Sunshine Isles. If a character gets damaged while holding one or more Silver Stars, he will lose one and it will scatter and bounce around the area nonstop. The player must catch it again to retrieve it. The touch screen shows the location of these stars.
Similar physics are used in the multiplayer mode of Super Mario 64 DS and the missions may have been the inspiration of the multiplayer mode or the other way around. However, this time, the Silver Stars are now Power Stars.
Silver Stars reappear in Super Mario Galaxy having the same role as in Super Mario 64 DS. They make the same noises as Lumas do, possibly meaning they're a different species of Luma. This time the player will not lose one if the player take damage.
Also, when the level is already defeated, instead of the usual Power Star, it is now a Silver Star, which does not gain the player any more stars in their "Star Count". Template:Artifacts Template:SM64 Items and Courses
