Necessary?

Is this article really necesary? From what I can tell, it seems to just be a normal piranha plant, but the white parts change color to match the whole “Party” theme of the Electrodrome. Meaning it has less differences than the different colored Koopa Troopas or even the recently merged Green Boo, because this doesn’t have any functional differences at all. The only differences between this and the normal Piranha Plants that I can see is the aesthetic design. Is there something I’m missing? Somethingone (talk) 13:11, August 2, 2021 (EDT)
- Pretty sure there was a proposal somewhere, but the main draw is having their own name. Don't know if it's the same case for language-of-origin, though. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:04, August 2, 2021 (EDT)
- Well if there WAS a proposal, I’m not seeing it on either of the piranha plant pages. Somethingone (talk) 16:01, August 2, 2021 (EDT)
- I can't find a proposal in the main proposal archive either. Nightwicked Bowser 16:54, August 2, 2021 (EDT)
- Here's the proposal. I personally don't think the split should have happened. These have no notable differences from regular Piranha Plants, and the name comes from a Prima guide, so I don't think we should use it as a reason to split them. (Submarine Nep-Enut, anyone?) 18:08, August 2, 2021 (EDT)
- It has a unique name and unique appearance, and Prima is a valid source and we have no reason to think this was an error. I think it's warranted. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 18:28, August 2, 2021 (EDT)
- I don't think the people who treated Banzai Bills, Bull's-Eye Banzais, and King Bills like they're all the same thing should be dictating how we split and merge things. Their "unique appearance" is just them flashing in different colors which, given the lack of any notable behavioral differences, makes them little more than a glorified color variant. 19:03, August 2, 2021 (EDT)
- They're not just basic Piranha Plants flashing different colors though, if you look closer you can see that they're covered in some sort of light-up dots (not much of a difference, but it's still something more than a run of the mill palette swap). It's true that Prima does make mistakes from time to time, but the current stance of the wiki is that Prima is an accepted official source and we take what they say as fact unless it is either overridden by a higher priority source or clearly incorrect. This case isn't either of those. If you want Prima to stop being used as a source entirely, that's a different discussion. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 19:08, August 2, 2021 (EDT)
- I never said anything about discrediting Prima entirely. Don't put words in my mouth. My issue is with using a third-party strategy guide name (not even Prima specifically, that "Submarine Nep-Enut" issue I brought up is from Nintendo Power) as decisive evidence that we should split something. Bubble Dayzee had a behavioral difference; this doesn't. Before this devolves into a discussion about Prima's validity (I can think of far better subjects for that), the dot thing is at least a point in their favor. I'd prefer it if we had a Japanese source to compare it to, though. 19:56, August 2, 2021 (EDT)
