About Donkey Kong

In chapter 10 and 14 DK appears, but it's not Donkey Kong, it's young Cranky Kong/Donkey Kong Snr. and later this distinction is confirmed when Cranky Kong is met as an old monkey in the DKC arc. Should I link the "Donkey Kong"'s link to the Donkey Kong page or to Cranky Kong, then? (I know it may sound stupid to ask, but I do see that the whole DK Senior section in Cranky it's just a mention, but all the stuff is in DK page. Even that, should be more sensible to have the DK Senior stuff in Cranky Kong since it's about that character, after all?) --Mariuigi Khed (talk) 15:15, November 15, 2021 (EST)

If it uses the Donkey Kong design, it's on the Donkey Kong page, if it uses the Cranky Kong design, it's on the Cranky Kong page. That's really the only way we can handle it without being confusing. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 16:16, November 15, 2021 (EST)
And just to be completely sure: by "Donkey Kong" design you mean the big muscular ape with occasional tie, right? Also because... "without being confused"? DK is the one with the forward tuft, while young Cranky doesn't and most of the time doesn't have a tie. What's so difficult? --Mariuigi Khed (talk) 04:36, November 16, 2021 (EST)
As much as I want "pre-Country" and "post-Country" to be totally clear, the lines aren't always that simple. For example, which one is Baby DK? Logic dictates it should be Cranky/original DK by all accounts, but design-wise, he looks a lot closer to Rare/modern DK, with the forward tuft and eye pattern. What about the few post-Country instances where Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. are together? What about Game & Watch Gallery 4, where it's backward-tuft, Game Boy-style DK in the artwork but forward-tuft, Rare-style DK on the title screen? What about Super Mario Odyssey? It's in the 8-bit section ripped from the arcade sprite, so it should be Cranky, but there was that one time not too long ago in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U where modern DK took on his grandfather's original tieless sprite. Etc. Nintendo just uses whichever on a whim, so the way the wiki handles it currently is best given the situation. Cranky Kong's legacy/possible appearances as Donkey Kong belong to that article.
