The Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary was an event taking place throughout the last few months of 2010, celebrating twenty-five years since the start of the mainline Super Mario series with the release of Super Mario Bros. in 1985. There were hints of an anniversary event revealed in early September, 2010 with the announcement of Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition during a retailer briefing in Japan.[1] A logo for the anniversary was trademarked only a few days later, further indicating there was an upcoming anniversary event.[2] The anniversary was commemorated with promotional websites, Club Nintendo rewards, merchandise, several new Mario-themed hardware and software, with one of them being the release of Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition. The official celebration was concluded sometime in late 2010. The celebration was preceded by the 20th anniversary celebration in 2005 and succeeded by the Year of Luigi in 2013.
