Thank You

Thanks for separating Gold Mario from the other drivers. Johnjohn2001 (talk) 00:31, August 22, 2021 (PDT)

He's separate because it's organised by rarity. Marie costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 06:03, August 22, 2021 (EDT)

Unmanagable "Availability"

This topic is a real pain. Given that MKT is a gacha game with everchanging availabilities it's becoming quite unmanagable to keep track of the (as of now) 125+ characters plus karts and gliders and it's only going to get worse. It already happened with the "favorite tracks" aspect of the game, since that changes every two weeks someone has to check that page and change it every tour, sometimes it goes weeks without changes because of the amount of work it requires. Right now there are 2 versions of "availability" for some characters which Koopa con Carne has been working on (See https://www.mariowiki.com/Category:Mario_Kart_Tour_Availabilities) and although this version seems more accurate the lists are different plus it's clear that it's going to generate further clustering in this and the kart / glider page. I'm trying to revamp the Driver list and the only thing I can think of to be both estetically pleasing and as complete as possible is in my Sandbox. The main problem here is how to define "special availability" since the line is getting blured as more and more oportunities are being given to get past drivers. We really need to think on an overhaul to this, maybe with a proposition vote?

My proposition? Eliminate the Special Availabilities and only keep track for when the driver/kart/glider was first added if it was added as a tour exclusive or regular or if it became a regular in a future tour. My reasoning here is that as time passess and people jump in during the current tour is not that useful to have that many notes on things that already expired.

Yeah, over time these availability listings will only bloat the driver tables more. Personally, I'd rather we relocate the special availabilities to dedicated pages; I don't think we ought to prune them entirely since it's the wiki's job to offer a thorough historic record of how each driver, kart, or glider has been obtainable. I'd suggest setting up a formal proposal before any decision is made. I'll put on hold any further creation of these availability pages until such a proposal is settled. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 21:28, August 27, 2021 (EDT)
Those special availability sections are actually very useful, they allow to know when and how a driver was specifically available. For example, it allows to know that Black Yoshi and Dry Bones (Gold) were first introduced in packs and weren't available through other means (and that Black Yoshi was specifically available in just one pipe as non-spotlight driver). Many buffs to drivers also correspond to special availability, with Dry Bones (Gold) and the Head Honcho in the Kamek Tour being again an example of that. I agree on making a separate page for such information if needed, though.--Mister Wu (talk) 06:38, August 29, 2021 (EDT)
I like the recent reorganisation, with the availability currently on the same page but separate.

I found that it's actually quite useful: for example, I haven't unlocked Ice Mario yet, and it says that he has been available recently (Frost tour $40 pack), so I can assume that I will have to wait a while for him to be available again.
