Slip Slidin' Away (mission)
Template:Missionbox Slip Slidin' Away is the first mission of Cool, Cool Mountain in Super Mario 64 and its remake, Super Mario 64 DS. Its objective is to go down the interior slide from top to bottom. The title is a reference to the Paul Simon song "Slip Slidin' Away."
Layout
The mission's Power Star appears once the player exits the door at the slide's end. When the player enters the level, a message pops up, directing them to the nearby cottage, which can be entered only through its chimney. A sign at the cottage's entrance, written by the Cabin Proprietor, also invites the player to enter through the chimney. Once they enter, they are faced with a slide, which they must ride to the bottom without slipping off. If they skid off, they fall into a bottomless pit and are kicked out of the level. The slide has a shortcut halfway through it, marked by a line of coins, which also contains a couple of 1-Up Mushrooms. Another, faster shortcut exists right at the start of the slide: By jumping or falling off the right ledge right after starting to slide, Mario can fall all the way down to the bottom and land with a dive right in front of the start of the slide's final tunnel part.
After the player makes it to the end and exits the cottage, the Power Star flies out the door and lands in front of the player. In the original version, the Star appears regardless of the mission selected, but in the DS version, this mission must be selected to have the Star appear; if other missions are selected and the player uses the slide, the Star will not appear after they exit the area.
