In-game logo for Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
An excellent start to the beginning of the Yoshi's Island series - and the end to a Super Mario World series. The gameplay experience and level design are both very similar and very different, making the enjoyability of the game a toss-up. The game does serve as an excellent sequel (or rather a prequel) to Super Mario World, so long as you don't mind playing as Yoshi all the time. The plot is very simple and straightforward, and the levels are mostly short and sweet, not the difficulty I would have expected. After a couple of worlds in, you'll know what you're in for. For what it's worth, the soundtrack is pretty good and memorable. The difficulty has a lot of range, especially over the bonus levels, and most of the bosses aren't much trouble. Being the start to one of my favorite series, it's a very nice feel-good game with plenty of collectibles, and has only evolved over time - much like Yoshi himself.

Not much to complain about. Just watch out for the variety in difficulty.

I've achieved six stars on my save files.

I played and completed this game on the SNES gallery of my Nintendo Switch.
