Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary

The Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary is an event taking place from September 2020 to March 2021, celebrating thirty five years since the start of the mainline Super Mario series with the release of Super Mario Bros. in 1985. The celebration was originally announced on September 3, 2020 with the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct,[1] and is being commemorated with in-game events, tie-ins, merchandise, My Nintendo rewards, and the announcement of several new Mario-series titles. The official celebration is expected to conclude by April 1, 2021.

In-game events
- The Super Mario Kart Tour for Mario Kart Tour, which adds the Super Mario Kart versions of Donkey Kong Jr. and Mario as racers[4]
- A 35th Anniversary-themed Ninji Speedruns course in Super Mario Maker 2
- A Mario-themed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate online tournament, only allowing the use of Mario-series characters, stages, and items
- The Mario-themed Super Mushroom vs. Super Star Splatfest for Splatoon 2 in which players choose between the Super Mushroom or Super Star as their favorite power-up
- Super Mario-themed furniture to be introduced to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in March 2021
Merchandise
- The Super Mario 64-themed PUMA RS-Dreamer Basketball Shoes. They are only available in one color: Flame Scarlet-Electric Blue.[5]
- A Super Mario-themed clothing line from BlackMilk[6]
- Splatoon 2 Super Mushroom vs. Super Star Splatfest-themed shirts and keychains[7]
- 35th Anniversary line of products from Nintendo TOKYO. Some of these products include shirts, keychains, and stickers. These products are also coming to the Nintendo Official UK Store.[8][9]
- A collaboration with the ice cream parlor franchise Cold Stone Creamery called Super Mario Birthday Cake Batter Bash, with products including a Mario Kart-themed Ice Cream Cake called "Rainbow Rally", a shake called Mario's Super Star Shake, and a Cake/Ice Cream confectionary called Mario's Super Birthday Bash. In addition, ordering these products will supply a special Nintendo code that can be used on My Nintendo to gain 100 Nintendo tokens.[10]
- A downloadable ID card for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit that can be created via player input. Creating the card is required as one of the missions.

- Hasbro's release of Jenga: Super Mario edition and their Super Mario Celebration! edition of Monopoly[11] Both were released on August 1, 2020.[12]
- JAKKS Pacific's "It's-a-Me, Mario!" action figure[13]

Miscellaneous
- Gen Hoshino, a well-known Japanese singer and songwriter, starred in a Japanese commercial to promote the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary.[16] In the commercial, he also unveiled and performed his new song, "Souzou / Create".[17]
- Nintendo launched websites for Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.[18]
- The Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch had been redesigned for the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary. A running Mario animation from Super Mario Bros or Super Mario 64 replaced the standard loading animation, and the eShop sidebar had a red background.
- Nintendo of Europe announced that they would distribute Super Mario Maker 2, Splatoon 2, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate medals to players who complete certain in-game challenges.[19]
- The Super Mario Maker 2 medal is awarded to the top 100 players in the Ninji Speedrun level 35th Anniversary Auto-Mario.
- Amazon randomly delivers products on Mario-themed boxes even though the product has nothing to do with it.[20] They also launched a Mario-themed page to celebrate the anniversary.
