User talk:Elijah Guy
Hello this is my talk page of certain DOOM!!!. Most of it is just warnings. If you want to be friends then just make a talk page and if I reply and say Green then you can be friends with me!
Trivia
This also goes for your anonymous edits: Please read through MarioWiki:Trivia before adding such information to articles; try to check through the article first to see if it's already been mentioned, and if not, see if it should be incorporated in the main body itself instead of adding it as trivia. Mario JC 06:12, March 29, 2020 (EDT)
This edit, too. Not only is it the wrong way around (Mario Kart DS came after Super Mario 64) but this sort of information would go in the main article itself. Also, please keep in mind that game titles should be italicised, as I've just done (see MarioWiki:Manual of Style#Italicizing titles). Mario JC 20:16, March 29, 2020 (EDT)
Umm I want to know... I don't know how to make a user page. Elijah Guy (talk) 14:58, April 5, 2020 (EDT)
- You will be able to make your userpage once you are autoconfirmed. Looking at your contributions, you just need to make one more edit. Try not to focus too much on your page, though! 15:08, April 5, 2020 (EDT)
Re. the Super Bell Hill edit: If you're not sure why your edit was deleted, check the article's history page (the "history" tab at the top of the page). You were asked to be more specific with the point (and preferably with a source if it's an off-camera element). Mario JC 21:17, April 5, 2020 (EDT)
Ok so now I can make a user page. Can you help me again im not sure what to do. Elijah Guy (talk) 21:21, April 5, 2020 (EDT)
- Just click on your username in the signature or the "user page" tab at the top of the page and you should be able to start creating the page. Mario JC 21:26, April 5, 2020 (EDT)
Yay Ok! Thanks for the help! :D Elijah Guy (talk) 21:31, April 5, 2020 (EDT)
Ok I made part of my page! Elijah Guy (talk) 22:05, April 5, 2020 (EDT)
Please stop putting "There is an invisible pool of water" without anything else on the Super Bell Hill page. That is way too vague. Where is this pool of water in the level? How does it work? In what way is it invisible? You need to address things like this before putting that back, and address them within the point. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:32, April 6, 2020 (EDT)
Umm im not sure how to upload a picture... Im on mobile.... Elijah Guy (talk) 17:34, April 6, 2020 (EDT)
- You don't need to upload a picture, just type it out. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:38, April 6, 2020 (EDT)
Is there any thing that I can edit? Something for a beginner??? Elijah Guy (talk) 17:39, April 6, 2020 (EDT)
- You can edit anything you want, just look around. Just please don't be vague with what you say. People need to know what you mean. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:41, April 6, 2020 (EDT)
Ah ok. Elijah Guy (talk) 17:44, April 6, 2020 (EDT)
- OK, for starters, don't revert edits constantly, please. How about you wait until you can log on with an actual computer, all right? Then it should be easy to upload a file. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:12, April 6, 2020 (EDT)
Ok is there anything else that can help me? Like some things for editing or something? Elijah Guy (talk) 21:11, April 6, 2020 (EDT)
- Help:Contents should have some pointers on whatever you need. You should still be able to upload on mobile if you go to Special:Upload. Mario JC 21:21, April 6, 2020 (EDT)
- You're also still adding useless trivia. Please re-read my first two messages above. Mario JC 22:22, April 6, 2020 (EDT)
Double Cherry Pass
Regarding your edit:
- You don't need to bold certain names. Only the article's title in the opening paragraph is bolded.
- Avoid using the word "you"; instead, use "the player" or the characters' names.
Overall, be sure to proofread large edits like this and correct any spelling and grammatical mistakes you may have made (improper capitalisation, missing periods etc.) before hitting "Save".
A lot of what you need to know when writing is found on MarioWiki:Manual of Style and MarioWiki:Good writing. Mario JC 20:51, April 7, 2020 (EDT)
Ah ok. I think I did almost good on this. I also hound out how to Itcalize words Elijah Guy (talk) 20:55, April 7, 2020 (EDT)
- Yup, just remember to put two more of those on the end of the words you wanna italicize. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:00, April 7, 2020 (EDT)
Talk Pages
...are not forums. Your opinions on NSLU are better suited for forums - more to the point, talk pages are for discussions directly related to the article itself, rather than its subject per se. -- Lord G. matters. 13:56, April 9, 2020 (EDT)
- I'm going to ask again that you not scroll right past the template explaining exactly why talk pages are not a substitute for forums, which I will so helpfully link here, and remind you that the intent of talk pages are for discussing the article, e.g. ways to improve it, what it should cover, et cetera. Thank you. -- Lord G. matters. 23:58, April 9, 2020 (EDT)
Reminder
Please stop adding forum talk to discussion pages on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing. If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
Stop making forum talk comments. Your comments have been removed multiple times already for this reason. If you want to chat about the game, go to the Mario Boards. Mario JC 00:05, April 10, 2020 (EDT)
Construction Template
To clarify, the construction template is only for mainspace articles, as it adds them to the construction category- it's an official maintenance category, so it shouldn't contain userpages. It is actually a rule on the template's page. However, if you would like to have the box there, you can copy the raw code minus the category from that page I've just linked and put it straight on your userpage. BBQ Turtle (talk) 12:14, April 10, 2020 (EDT)
"Raw code" as in the source code for the design of the template itself. You need to switch to desktop mode to see it but here it is:
<div class="notice-template" style="display:flex;background:#FC5;margin:0 2% 0.75em;padding:0 1em;border:1px solid #f22"> This article is under construction. Therefore, please excuse its informal appearance while it's being worked on. We hope to have it completed as soon as possible. </div>
You're free to change the notice text for your userpage. Mario JC 09:31, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
I improvised! Added my own version. Elijah Guy (talk) 09:33, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
Toad Trainworks
The information you are giving for Toad Trainworks is vague at best, and is poorly written with spelling mistakes. If your edit is reverted, and you are told to not add it back, don't add it back. Find as much information about the area as you can, or wait for someone else to do it, as the description you are giving is not satisfactory. 23:52, April 14, 2020 (EDT)
Most if its not. Most of the story exactly happened. Elijah Guy (talk) 23:55, April 14, 2020 (EDT)
This is a warning to stop your inappropriate behavior (edit warring) on the Super Mario Wiki. Please adhere to the rules or you will be blocked from editing this site. If you feel this warning was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
Issuing a warning as this has been a problem with previous edits as well. Stop repeatedly forcing edits that have been reverted onto the article. Mario JC 23:56, April 14, 2020 (EDT)
So now what? What am I supposed to do??? I have no idea what articles need editing. At this rate I would be drastically using the "Mario Party Legacy" guide for Paper Mario Color Splash. At least that guide had 100% info. Elijah Guy (talk) 00:04, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
Plus all of it is not vague. Elijah Guy (talk) 00:10, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
- Perhaps start by exploring the rest of the site a bit more and looking here. -- Lord G. matters. 06:35, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
Ya know this is kinda lazy. Elijah Guy (talk) 14:29, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
- How is directly showing you a list of articles that need editing lazy? I'm inclined to think you're projecting. -- Lord G. matters. 21:02, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
No offense but I think this should of been completed. Elijah Guy (talk) 21:09, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
- Then complete it. Don't make half-filled general statements. Take a look at other level articles to see what type of content you need to put on the page. 21:12, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
The actual parts I know is when Mario firsts enters the level. Elijah Guy (talk) 21:15, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
- You can try building it up in your sandbox, if you want. Once you find more information and it looks complete, you can transfer it over to the actual article. 21:20, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
Ah okay. Elijah Guy (talk) 21:25, April 15, 2020 (EDT)
"Minor edits. Note: Is the wiki kinda lazy, I mean they should of had like almost all the pages done before 2020."
I don't know how to break this to you, but "completion" of a wiki about a still-ongoing franchise with games being made as we speak just might be an unrealistic goal. -- Lord G. matters. 14:28, April 16, 2020 (EDT)
- You're not annoying. You're just having trouble, and we are trying to help you understand how things work. Everyone has to start somewhere. 18:52, April 16, 2020 (EDT)
I just wanted to add facts to the pages.Elijah Guy (talk) 07:26, April 17, 2020 (EDT)
Pages
One or more pages that you have recently created have been deleted or marked as a stub article (Towers). Please consider the following ideas and suggestions when expanding/creating an article:
|
Regarding your recent page, not only was the subject already covered, but your page was too small. While usually you can add the construction template when you're working on an article, as long as it's still long enough if a page is literally only one or three sentences long when the subject has considerably more information then that then it will be marked as a stub and deleted. Thus, if you only have time to make a tiny page then instead of publishing it you should add the content onto a sandbox (can be a personal one) and work on it later. Your article was not of acceptable length to be published and marked under construction. Regardless, before making any article you should check to see if it already exists. Finally, articles need stuff like templates and categories: see MarioWiki:Manual of Style for more information. Doomhiker (talk) 10:35, April 17, 2020 (EDT)
- Page was turned into a redirect instead. We do not cover multiples of the same subject.
- "Now how am I ever gonna make friends if I can't make a page!?!?!?!" You're young, so I know you don't have a lot of experience with how things work here, but I assume you should already know the answer to this question from just how basic life works. You have to build up respect, do good work and act friendly toward others, and you'll find yourself surrounded by friends before you know it. 11:19, April 17, 2020 (EDT)
Probaly everbody has a friend on the wiki because their older than me. That must be the caseElijah Guy (talk) 11:23, April 17, 2020 (EDT)
Also almost everybody on the wiki has 1000+ edits that are not useless Elijah Guy (talk) 11:27, April 17, 2020 (EDT)
- There are certainly a lot of people that have been here a long time, most also having rocky starts. But age is not the issue, they built up relations with time. Just keep at it, read some of the policy pages, and ask for help if you need it. 11:30, April 17, 2020 (EDT)
In that case I know something! Is there pages that need gallery titles? (The words under a picture.)Elijah Guy (talk) 11:45, April 17, 2020 (EDT)
Or any Trivia that I can add?Elijah Guy (talk) 12:05, April 17, 2020 (EDT)
- Trivia is more of a side thing. You can learn more at MarioWiki:Trivia. 01:15, April 18, 2020 (EDT)
Mainspace content
Just to make myself perfectly clear, personal info about yourself needs to stay in your userspace, and cannot under any circumstances be moved to the mainspace, like you did twice already. Thank you. (T|C) 23:38, April 17, 2020 (EDT)
- You can learn more about what is and isn't allowed at MarioWiki:Userspace.
- Also, do not recreated deleted pages without talking to an admin first. 01:14, April 18, 2020 (EDT)
You also genuinely don't need a second user page when your current one + subpages will do just fine if it's about telling people about yourself. -- Lord G. matters. 01:41, April 18, 2020 (EDT)
"I'm sure people on the wiki never met a autistic person."
This is a completely false statement, not only because you can't know who people on the wiki know in real life, but also because Alex95, an admin, has autism. Doomhiker (talk) 10:43, April 18, 2020 (EDT)
I did not know that. Elijah Guy (talk) 15:24, April 18, 2020 (EDT)
- Guess who else has autism as well. Hint: They're talkin' to you now. -- Lord G. matters. 15:51, April 18, 2020 (EDT)
You? Elijah Guy (talk) 18:55, April 18, 2020 (EDT)
Signature and editing articles
Alright, good attempt here. Thumbnails don't really work for sigs, as that will mess with coding on every page it is transcluded on. Just use instead (size change intact, image has to be 32px or smaller).
Further more, the sig needs to link to your userpage. Follow the steps at MarioWiki:Signatures. 15:57, April 19, 2020 (EDT)
- In addition to that, good job with the Mossrock Theater expansion! At least, as far as I can tell, I don't have the game to compare it. There's just a number of things you need to keep in mind before continuing:
- Italics are reserved for publications, like game, book, and movie titles (i.e. Super Mario Bros.). They are not used for character or enemy names.
- Avoid "you", instead using "the player" or a character name.
- Avoid writing strategic information (such as "Fight the Shy Guy and you’ll find out who he really is...").
- Grammar and punctuation were all over the place, please take better care with them.
- Lists are made with bullet points (as you can see here). Just pressing enter muddles the information together, a limitation of MediaWiki causing an overly large paragraph.
- Please take a look at my fixes on the page for an example of what I mean. Additionally, please take a look at MarioWiki:Manual of Style. 16:58, April 19, 2020 (EDT)
RE: Mossrock Theater Rewrite
I'm currently working on Color Splash coverage. Your writing uses "the player" incorrectly (the person playing the game is not in the forest, Mario is), list format should generally be avoided in prose, and you give undue weight to some locations and jokes. Additionally, the article is lacking in images. I'm currently 1/3rd of the way through covering the game, but real life complications have prevented me from doing more lately. Scrooge200 (talk) 19:12, April 19, 2020 (EDT)
Signature
This isn't how a signature page is used. It's supposed to hold the code that creates your signature when you sign a comment.
- First replace what you wrote on your signature page with:
Elijah Guy (talk)
- Go to Special:Preferences, type in the "Signature" field, click on the "Treat signature as wikitext" checkbox, and hit "Save".
Then when you sign with ~~~~ your custom signature comes up. Mario JC 23:23, April 22, 2020 (EDT)
Your signature cannot simply be a thumbnail image. It should be a link to your userpage, and optionally your talk page and the image (frameless), as in the code above. Mario JC 09:55, April 23, 2020 (EDT)
I did use the code: User:Elijah Guy/sig Elijah Guy (talk) 19:11, April 23, 2020 (EDT)
- I was referring to the code in the box, which should be copied to your signature page. Mario JC 21:07, April 23, 2020 (EDT)
Dear Elijah Guy, Your current signature is in violation of one or more of the rules listed on MarioWiki:Signatures. Please change your signature and keep the regulations and requirements in mind when creating future designs. If you have not made the appropriate changes within one week of receiving this notice, your signature will be changed for you. |
Not a reminder/warning, just a notification to fix your signature page ASAP as I've explained above. Mario JC 10:12, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
I did everything you told me to do. Elijah Guy (talk) 10:20, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
Ah I get it. I did it! Elijah Guy (talk) 10:22, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
- No you didn't, you need to fix your signature page as I' mentioned multiple times. Mario JC 21:05, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
I did it again! Is it correct? Elijah Guy (talk) 21:37, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
- Did you do step two? (Go to Special:Preferences, type in the "Signature" field, click on the "Treat signature as wikitext" checkbox, and hit "Save".) Mario JC 21:41, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
I did do step 2. Elijah Guy (talk) 21:46, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
- Your signature when you type it out is coming out as raw code (like this instead of ). You need to type in the "New signature" text box and tick the checkbox underneath it. Mario JC 21:53, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
Did I do it now? Elijah Guy (talk) 22:16, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
Image
My image is gone of a the two tracks for the Trick tour in Mario Kart Tour! Where did it go??? Elijah Guy (talk) 20:29, April 23, 2020 (EDT)
- Your images most likely got moved to different filenames, if I'm thinking of the right ones. -- Lord G. matters. 06:01, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
Last warning
Template:Lastwarn You seem to not be getting a grasp at this. When someone removes your edit, that is not an invitation to keep adding it again and again as you've been doing in many of your past edits. Discuss first or ask why it was removed. "Fryguy" and "Shy Guy" may be somewhat similar names and rhyme but they suggest vastly different concepts. Few to no users would confuse the two and it's not enough to warrant a distinguish. (For example, you wouldn't confuse Wario with Spario.) Mario JC 00:06, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
I shouldn't belong here, next thing you know I get banned because I used "Incorrect grammar". I wanted to add trivia but its not incoruaged here. I would be *butter of in the Mario Boards. (*Pun Intended*) Elijah Guy (talk) 09:29, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
- Don't take this to mean you "don't belong here" please. There are a lot users who've similarly went "Maybe I just shouldn't edit then" and this sort of negative attitude is just the wrong attitude to have. We're trying to help you improve. If there's a first-time issue with grammar or anything, we let you know "hey, this is how you're supposed to do it", as the posts above show. The problem is when the issue continues even after you were reminded or pointed out the relevant rules several times, as has been the case with your previous edits reverting removed edits. You just need to follow and read the rules and guidelines users are giving you, and try to have some common sense (i.e. if something you added was removed, there's likely a reason for that). Mario JC 10:09, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
So no trivia is allowed? :,( Elijah Guy (talk) 11:23, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
- No, we're saying take better care of your edits. If you need help checking if something is acceptable or not, there are people that are willing to help you if you ask. 12:27, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
Okay. Elijah Guy (talk) 12:40, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
Everybody has something to edit! I don't have anything to edit. If I do somebody will bound to delete it. Elijah Guy (talk) 14:58, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
- We don't want to deter you from editing, I'm sorry that's what you think of us. It does take a while to fully understand what it is we look for, but do take the time to practice and learn. Go over Help:Contents.
- Don't create pages just to make a page, put some effort into it. And don't keep edit warring back and forth, as that constantly changes the article content, which should not happen. Go over everything we've told you, but just try to be responsible and you'll be fine :)
- And even if you get blocked, it's not the end of the world. You're young, you still have a lot to learn, so come back in a few years if you need to when you feel you are ready to handle these tasks. 18:25, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
It happened again! I was trying to add more Information so the page will be completed but then it got deleted again! Elijah Guy (talk) 20:56, April 24, 2020 (EDT)
WHYYYY! Every time I make a edit sombody deletes it! I was including a tower section for list of level themes. The castle/fortress theme does not talk about towers. Elijah Guy (talk) 12:20, April 25, 2020 (EDT)
- Well, you already asked about it on the level themes page and two people told you why there shouldn't be one... Just keep trying and don't take it personally, you'll get the hang of what information belongs on articles and what doesn't eventually. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 12:34, April 25, 2020 (EDT)
Spelling is very important editing an encyclopedia. You should also take the time to work on that. (Like "usally", which is spelled "usually") Mario JC 20:37, April 25, 2020 (EDT)
I'm terribly bad at this. Oh well I'll just try to help somewhere else. Elijah Guy (talk) 17:53, May 13, 2020 (EDT)
Yeah I should quit at this... I dont even have the games to add facts to the wiki. Elijah Guy (talk) 20:06, May 13, 2020 (EDT)
Even after you were specifically warned for this reason, you added the same Fryguy edit again. I've already explained why it's unnecessary and "because they rhyme" is not good enough. Stop simply forcing back edits or you're getting blocked again, that's a final warning. Mario JC 10:14, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Then how somebody can confuse "A Beam in the Dark" with "A Light in the Dark?" Elijah Guy (talk) 10:53, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
They both rhyme, like Fryguy and Shy Guy. Elijah Guy (talk) 10:54, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
- Those are both levels with similar titles that mean the same thing. Fryguy and Shy Guy are completely different characters with the only thing they share being "Guy". 10:56, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
They both appear in the same game. Elijah Guy (talk) 11:06, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
:Fly Guy and Shy Guy do not have distinguish templates. They rhyme and they both appear in the same games. Duckfan77 (talk) 11:13, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
So, we should make one. Elijah Guy (talk) 11:16, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
- No, we shouldn't. Fly Guys are derived from Shy Guys anyways, so there's no point. (T|C) 11:27, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
I don’t know a lot of wiki policies, but I think that the distinguish is used for people searching up stuff. So I was trying to search for Monty Tank, but I put in Mole Tank. I was confused because the Monty Tank was being driven by a Monty Mole. So I was not sure which was which. I added a distinguish template because someone might confuse it. But in the case of Fryguy someone searching for shy guy would not type a F and a R. Sorry if I am being stupid and this isn’t helping at all.Duckfan77 (talk) 11:34, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Never mind.Duckfan77 (talk) 11:42, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
- We don't put a distinguish template just because they rhyme, there are *plenty* of subjects that do. The distinguish template is meant to lighten confusion on similar names or similar subjects, of which Fryguy and Shy Guy are not. While plenty of Shy Guys have similar sounding titles to each other (for example, Spy Guy), Category:Shy Guys and the Shy Guy navbox suffices. 11:51, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
I was not confused with Monty Tank and Mole Tank. Elijah Guy (talk) 00:21, June 20, 2020 (EDT)
- Obviously it's subjective but you're supposed to look at it from a broader perspective. "Monty Tank" and "Mole Tank" is likely because some people may mistakenly think "Mole Tank" refers to the Monty Tank because the names suggest similar concepts. Few users would confuse "Fryguy" and "Shy Guy". Mario JC 06:59, June 20, 2020 (EDT)
So we put a distinguish on pages that rhyme! Elijah Guy (talk) 14:41, June 20, 2020 (EDT)
- That is, only if readers generally agree that the two can be easily confused. For example, Propeller Block and Propeller Box have distinguish templates on their articles because they have a near-identical appearance when viewed from the front, which can lead to potential confusion. Something like Shy Guy and Fryguy, on the other hand, is less confusing since the two look radically different in nearly every way. (T|C) 23:30, June 20, 2020 (EDT)
What about icicle and Big Icicle, there different but, have a distinguish template. Elijah Guy (talk) 15:48, June 21, 2020 (EDT)
On the icicle page, it’s a split template.Duckfan77 (talk) 16:00, June 21, 2020 (EDT)
Or Big Goomba? Elijah Guy (talk) 20:13, June 21, 2020 (EDT)
Or Giant Koopa? Those act the same. Elijah Guy (talk) 06:17, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
Userspace edits
You are making a very large amount of edits on your userpage compared to your amount of edits on main articles. Please try to make more edits in the mainspace, and try to not make too many userpage edits in a row. JoeRunner (talk and stuff) 00:27, April 27, 2020 (EDT)
I'm scared because if I make a mistake I will get banned Elijah Guy (talk) 08:57, April 27, 2020 (EDT)
Don't worry, making a mistake won't automatically get you banned. As long as you don't do the same thing repeatedly, you'll be okay. This is the first time you've been told about this, so you're good. Just keep it in mind for the future. JoeRunner (talk and stuff) 09:42, April 27, 2020 (EDT)
Okay. Elijah Guy (talk) 10:46, April 27, 2020 (EDT)
Please stop making excessive userpage edits on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing. If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
I've already told you - you're making ten or more edits to your userpage within a short period of time, while making a very small number of edits in the mainspace. I recommend that you try to make less edits to your userpage in the future, or try to make more smaller edits within the same one, as I see that many of your edits are made within a few minutes of each other. Also remember to try to contribute to other pages more. If you continue like you are, you will get a warning; I'm being very generous by giving you simply a reminder. JoeRunner (talk and stuff) 22:58, May 9, 2020 (EDT)
I'm having bad dreams about me getting banned. I should just take a break. Elijah Guy (talk) 10:01, May 10, 2020 (EDT)
What's the point of making too many userspace edits? Nobody will erase anything, (Except if there is a Under Construction box) and it's a safer version of the wiki pages. Plus, it's like making your page better, similar to editing pages on the wiki. I consider that a safe space for editing. Elijah Guy (talk) 06:24, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
Besides, nobody will DELETE your work, also a great place to add alot of trivia! (Unlike all the other Non-Trivia pages) Elijah Guy (talk) 06:30, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
- Excessive userspace edits are discouraged because the main aim of the wiki is to provide coverage about the Mario franchise, not about specific users. While it's fine to put some effort into making your user page nice, it's not really important to the overall aim of the project. You shouldn't just work on your user page because you don't have to follow the guidelines there and the edits you make won't get removed. If you put a little time into reading over some of the basic guidelines and other users' feedback you'll find that they're not that hard to follow, and if you don't know where to start editing there is plenty of work to be done if you look at the maintenance page. And it's not that other pages can't have trivia, but overuse of the section is also discouraged when the information can fit elsewhere in the article, as is moving things from elsewhere into the trivia. BBQ Turtle (talk) 06:41, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
The meaning of Trivia is- Useless information. So, why is most of the information not in the trivia section? Elijah Guy (talk) 23:29, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
Also, I only have a few Mario games, so I don't know alot about everything. Elijah Guy (talk) 23:39, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
Which makes it almost impossible for me to edit a few pages. Elijah Guy (talk) 23:40, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
- Trivia is more about information that doesn't fit anywhere else on the article than "useless" information. It's discouraged because the information sometimes isn't notable, and new users sometimes add their info into the existing trivia section rather than relocating it somewhere else. You're not expected or needed to know everything, and you can stick to editing pages about games you do know about if you want. You could also do general edits like fixing grammar and spelling, which usually don't require knowledge on the games. Scrooge200 (talk) 23:45, June 23, 2020 (EDT)
Most of the things that I can edit are picture based. And all my pictures are low-resloution. And need a higher quality image. Elijah Guy (talk) 11:20, June 24, 2020 (EDT)
Scrooge200, I took your advice and it did not work! Elijah Guy (talk) 10:42, June 25, 2020 (EDT)
Excessive Edits
Try to avoid making excessive amounts of edits on a page at a time, because that can flood the recent changes. Just...try to do it all in one edit. --DeepFriedCabbage 20:38, April 27, 2020 (EDT)
Categories
When adding categories, make sure to use brackets as if you were linking to an article, like this: Also, make sure to spell it correctly otherwise it won't work - it's Category, not Catagory. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 14:33, April 30, 2020 (EDT)
- Additionally, extensions should be "png" or "jpg", not "PNG", "JPG", "jpeg", and the like. 15:38, April 30, 2020 (EDT)
Categories are linked with square brackets, not curly brackets (with "Images") as TheFlameChomp did for you. Also, please avoid uploading images if they're not going to be used on articles. If you're only uploading for the sake of discussion on talk pages, upload it to a website like Imgur and link it when you comment. Mario JC 22:24, May 3, 2020 (EDT)
Remember you were also reminded about forum talk. Talk pages are for wiki-related discussions, otherwise go to the Mario Boards. Mario JC 22:33, May 3, 2020 (EDT)
Umm for one I dont have no idea how to do links. The second thing is I think I'm too young to go on Imgur. Elijah Guy (talk) 23:30, May 3, 2020 (EDT)
- You just need to upload, and then copy/paste the resulting URL when you post a comment. Mario JC 08:23, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
Hello, Elijah Guy. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:
When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use: or Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
You need to read instructions given to you more carefully. Categories use square brackets, not curly ones. Categories are not assigned by character (like "Category:Toad") but by the game the file came from (e.g. "Category:Paper Mario: Color Splash Images"), as this notice explains. Also, don't remove the "}}" after the "aboutfile". So basically the "Summary" box when you upload should look like:

If you notice something's off with how you did it (like broken coding), don't be afraid to ask or leave a note in an edit summary asking for assistance. Mario JC 08:23, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
Yay and thank you. Ooh I know what will help! I'll will put pictures to show the locations of the Green Stars that will help tremendously for the Super Mario 3D World pages! Elijah Guy (talk) 10:54, May 5, 2020 (EDT)
- Please take a closer look at the information above. The categories on your images should be , not . 18:52, June 3, 2020 (EDT)
Why does the uncategorized part even have {{ anyways? Elijah Guy (talk) 18:57, June 3, 2020 (EDT)
- "" are transclusion calls. The uncategorized template is a template, meaning it has to use in order to show. is a category link, you would see these on the bottom of pages, the blue links in the bar at the bottom. You are to replace uncategorized with . 19:00, June 3, 2020 (EDT)
It's still saying "Things From New Super Luigi U" when I use the {{ Elijah Guy (talk) 19:05, June 3, 2020 (EDT)
- Read my information carefully and try to follow it. Look at the edits to your previous uploads if you need to. 19:08, June 3, 2020 (EDT)
A couple of things
OK, I've removed the "mixed" level theme section as it isn't a new theme, it is only a combination of other ones and is already mentioned in the opening paragraph, and does not require its own section. If someone has removed something, (I believe you're on mobile, correct me if I'm wrong) it's worth checking why it has been removed- most people will add something in the edit summary, which you can check by either going to recent changes or by looking at the last edited by thing at the bottom of the page. If someone hasn't given a reason, then try asking them on their talk page why they have removed it rather than starting an edit war and just adding it back in. Additionally, double check your edits before saving (I believe a preview comes up on mobile), so double check things like spelling, coding, etc. there first before saving, and if you think you are going to be making edits to lots of sections of a page, try to do the whole page at once rather than one section at a time to avoid flooding recent changes as well. And I think you might need to spend less time editing your userpage, as almost half of your edits are there when the mainspace articles should really be your priority. BBQ Turtle (talk) 07:43, May 7, 2020 (EDT)
Yes I am on mobile and your correct. I have no idea what to edit because it will probably be deleted for a reason and I can't put it back. Elijah Guy (talk) 12:39, May 7, 2020 (EDT)
- A couple of more things.
- What song plays on what level isn't all that notable for a game like 3D World. Much of the theme music is assigned to a level theme, not a specific level, so attributing the song to a level is incorrect.
- If the images you are uploading are the best you can provide, please place image-quality on them when uploading, because they could use a quality boost.
- Categories are and not . Please view the image category template you have here in the section below for reference.
Useless
Ok I feel like I'm useless... I cant find a page to edit because I dont know anything about it! Even if I tried it will get deleted. So I probably will quit. Elijah Guy (talk) 12:23, May 15, 2020 (EDT)
I just don't fit in with the matureness of the wiki sooo goodbye. Elijah Guy (talk) 14:22, May 15, 2020 (EDT)
Nobody will "Probaly Find This"
I bet nobody will find this since I am blocked. They will find this when I'm NOT blocked. That's is weird. I'm probaly not gonna edit any page i will probaly just use the wiki as a cheat guide like used to do. Watch I bet when two weeks are up somebody is going to randomly comment here. Still weird. Then, sombody will probably delete this discussion page. Elijah Guy (talk) 17:51, May 16, 2020 (EDT)
I definitely feel like I'm venting and exaggerating a bit. That's probably bound to happen. Elijah Guy (talk) 17:54, May 16, 2020 (EDT)
- The reason you got blocked is because you continued doing things you were told not to do. If you don't want to edit, then don't edit. But you're not going to learn that way. There is always something to work on, but you won't know how to do most of it right off the bat. When your block expires, you should take the time to learn how the community works. If you continue using your talk page this way, you will lose talk page privileges as well. 17:56, May 16, 2020 (EDT)
Here's some advice for when your block ends: You seem to be focused on always needing something to edit. There's no reason for that though, we have lots of users who only edit a few times a month. Rather than trying to find something to edit, just browse the wiki as you normally would. Eventually something to edit will find you. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 18:19, May 16, 2020 (EDT)
- I second all this. I myself only edit a few times every week, or sometimes every month. You don't have to edit a lot - in fact, you don't have to edit at all. All you need to do is take the editing tips you get into account. It's definitely okay to take breaks from editing the wiki, and it's definitely okay to stop. If you feel like that's best for your mental health, then by all means, do so. Your user and talk pages won't be deleted, so if you decide that you want to return to editing the wiki, everything will still be there. JoeRunner (talk and stuff) 21:03, May 16, 2020 (EDT)
Was it useless?
My Mossrock Theater edit was useless! Somebody re-edited my hard work. Elijah Guy (talk) 09:17, May 26, 2020 (EDT)
- That's the point of a wiki. It's a website where everyone contributes so expect other users rewriting and improving upon your edits. That's how the wiki grows. Mario JC 09:48, May 26, 2020 (EDT)
That means I did ALL of that for nothing!?! Elijah Guy (talk) 09:54, May 26, 2020 (EDT)
- No. You gave it a good attempt and provided a good start. But it did need improvement, so someone came and improved it. It wasn't for nothing, we're all working together. 11:55, May 26, 2020 (EDT)
Oh, thanks for clarifying. Elijah Guy (talk) 13:57, May 26, 2020 (EDT)
SM3DW images
Alright, good attempt with the Super Mario 3D World images, but that's not quite what we're looking for. The images should be cropped so they show just the level icon and not the whole image. Are you able to do that and upload a new version? Also, be sure to name the files properly, one of them had a string of numbers and letters that didn't show what the image was about. 14:38, May 27, 2020 (EDT)
- Additionally, when uploading images, please remember to remove unused variables in the aboutfile template. This prevents the images from appearing in Category:Files with broken Aboutfile template. Also, categories are added to images using rectangular brackets (
[[]]
), rather than curly brackets (
). Thanks! --TheFlameChomp (talk) 15:21, May 27, 2020 (EDT)
Ok I cropped The Picture! Elijah Guy (talk) 15:52, May 27, 2020 (EDT)
When you crop the picture, avoid making the cropped version bigger as it just makes it look blurrier. Also, again, you need to use square brackets for image categories, not curly brackets. Mario JC 00:20, May 28, 2020 (EDT)
Re:Screenshot
For screenshots, I play the game in an emulator. To play Wii U games like Paper Mario: Color Splash, I use Cemu. Cemu's screenshot button often reveals graphical glitches, so I have to use Print Screen and crop my screenshot to ensure it's accurate to real hardware. To get the games, you have to dump them from your Wii U, and there are guides online for that. I also back up my save files after every level so I can easily go back to previous levels for screenshots of story-based events. Scrooge200 (talk) 14:46, May 27, 2020 (EDT)

I took screenshots from YouTube. I'm not sure if I can make the quality better. Elijah Guy (talk) 20:02, May 27, 2020 (EDT)
- Does the video you're watching have 720p or 1080p options? If so, you might be able to obtain better quality that way. (T|C) 02:08, May 28, 2020 (EDT)
No, sorry. It looked like it had 1080p befor I cropped the image. Now It just looks like 240p image. Elijah Guy (talk) 07:17, May 28, 2020 (EDT)
Re-Make Page.
OKAY! I'm doing it. I'm making the Rescue Cheif page for PMCS! Though, has anybody seen my old picture of him? I need it please. Elijah Guy (talk) 07:23, May 28, 2020 (EDT)
RE:Screenshot
You can take a screenshot by using the console's direct upload feature. While you have a game open, you need to enter the HOME menu and access the internet browser, then go to Super Mario Wiki. On the "Upload file" page, you need to tap "Browse screenshot" and select one of the two images that appear (preferrably the one with bigger resolution if the game runs the same on both the TV and GamePad), then upload it as you would on your computer. Nothing easier! This can be done on all sites where image uploading is supported, like Twitter and Facebook, not just Super Mario Wiki. Doing so ensures that the screenshots you upload have the console's native resolution, instead of relying on YouTube's modified resolution and compressed quality. You can view a few examples of how a Wii U screenshot should look here. Hope this helps. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 10:20, June 4, 2020 (EDT)
Oh.... I don't have Internet Connection or wifi... Elijah Guy (talk) 14:00, June 4, 2020 (EDT)
- Then... how are you editing here? Or you mean your Wii U is not connected to the internet? You can add a connection in the settings. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 14:17, June 4, 2020 (EDT)
I use my phone, I use cellular data. Elijah Guy (talk) 14:23, June 4, 2020 (EDT)
- Well, with mobile data you can create a hot spot from your phone, which works similarly to a wi-fi network, and connect your Wii U to that. But if this would create further inconveniences, then you may keep uploading screenshots from where it's most handy to you. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:08, June 4, 2020 (EDT)

Hello... Hello??? Elijah Guy (talk) 09:26, June 26, 2020 (EDT)
Super Mario 3D World level music
I've noticed that you've started trying to add which level themes appear where in Super Mario 3D World level articles. This has been reverted several times by other users including myself, as this information isn't really notable or important, particularly when it's things like "This is the third level to use...". If your edits have been reverted, please check why, either using recent changes or by checking the page history, as most of the time a reason will be given. Continuing to readd the information begins an edit war, which should always be avoided. BBQ Turtle (talk) 10:41, June 25, 2020 (EDT)
I took Scrooge200 advice. To edit pages that I know alot About. Elijah Guy (talk) 10:45, June 25, 2020 (EDT)
But, all the pages (that I know alot about) seem fine. Elijah Guy (talk) 10:46, June 25, 2020 (EDT)
- I doubt this sort of thing is what Scrooge200 had in mind. Nightwicked Bowser
Here is what Scrooge200 said. I took that part as advice "You're not expected or needed to know everything, and you can stick to editing pages about games you do know about." Elijah Guy (talk) 10:48, June 25, 2020 (EDT)
Then maybe you should try and broaden your horizons a bit. You may find something else that you'll really enjoy and be able to add good content for here. Nightwicked Bowser
You know, if you want to add the music information to articles, a proposal recently passed that decided the song parameter on infoboxes should have the song's title (assuming there's an official one) and the .ogg file (if we have one). You could go ahead and add those for the 3D World articles if you want, just make sure you're using the official song titles listed on Super Mario 3D World Original Soundtrack. The themes we already have uploaded are listed on List of Super Mario 3D World media. Here's a simple line of code for doing this to get you started using Super Bell Hill's theme as an example:
|song=Super Bell Hill<br>
Now for the record, enacting another user's proposal is usually a bad idea and considered edit sniping. In this case you're probably fine since it's such a large project that there's no reasonable way one user could do it all at once, but maybe ask Scrooge200 for permission to go ahead anyway.
-- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 11:31, June 25, 2020 (EDT)
"Editing pages on games you know about" is good advice, but that doesn't mean you should add every little detail. You need to use your best judgement on whether what you're adding is significant or not. The fact that it's "the second/third/all the way up to tenth/eleventh/etc. level" to use a recurring song is not notable. Mario JC 21:09, June 25, 2020 (EDT)
Horrible
I'm horrible at this! I'm not going to edit the pages... It's NOT SAFE ANYMORE!!! (I'm not getting a Grasp on the wiki.) Oh also, I'm not sure why but I cannot retrieve my password for the talk pages. (This also is the 3rd reason that I always edit my user page.) I'll just go on the forums and have fun. - There is an option to keep users able to edit only their talk page, so they can discuss a block. However, all you're doing is asking for help without specifying what you need help with (if it's something we've already covered with you, please go back through the discussions on this talk page).
- There are various steps to making a wiki that, I'll be honest, I'm not sure you're ready to handle. You can try making one on Wikia, Gamepedia, or ShoutWiki to get started, but there's a lot of setup involved. 15:19, June 27, 2020 (EDT)

Capitalisation
Don't capitalise random words Like This. Only proper nouns (names like "Mario" and "Fire Flower") and the first word of a sentence should have the first letters written in capitals. Mario JC 00:23, October 1, 2020 (EDT)
I do that Most of the Time... See I did it again! Elijah Guy (talk)

Athletic
One or more pages that you have recently created have been deleted or marked as a stub article (Athletic). Please consider the following ideas and suggestions when expanding/creating an article:
|
In addition, the article is meant to be for the Mario vs. Donkey Kong level with the name "Athletic" (see Template:MVDK Levels), not the athletic level type. Either way, please do not create new articles with barely any information in them. Mario JC 07:06, October 4, 2020 (EDT)
Oh, Well I will try Maintenance! Again!
You did it again with "Spring (Sonic the Hedgehog)".
This is not good enough. Not only did it not follow MarioWiki:Manual of Style but you're still capitalising random words. Please take the time to look over the wiki's guidelines and talk page messages and work on your grammar. Do not create low-effort stub articles; you shouldn't need to be reminded of the same things again. Mario JC 20:24, October 4, 2020 (EDT)
Oh... Sorry... I couldn't find anything else that's on Maintenance, that I know alot about. But the good news is that I contributed to a Rythm Heaven Page (Rythm Tweezers, Wario Ware) Is there More like it? Elijah Guy (talk)
- You acknowledged the issues, and yet you are still writing with improper grammar. Take better care of your edits.
- Also, we don't really need a brief summary of levels. 22:50, October 4, 2020 (EDT)
Okay! I will! I hope... And I'll try to find something else to help the pages!

Hello, Elijah Guy. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the aboutfile template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded syntax is shown below. Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line for the parameter(s) you don't use.
