Naval Piranha, Tetris Attack

Naval Piranha is the boss of World 3-8 in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, and later in the GBA remake. Her name comes from the fact that she resides in water. It could also, perhaps, be a reference to the fact that the boss's weakness is its belly button, or navel.

It's highly possible that the Nipper plants she spit out grew up to become the Naval Piranhas in future games, seeing as how she disintegrated when defeated.

In Tetris Attack, Naval Piranha, allied with her Naval Buds, is in the tenth level and the last boss of easy vs. mode. She frequently uses hearts in her dialogue, and calls Yoshi "Babeh."

Naval Piranha makes a reappearance in Mario Party Advance as a boss. The end of game credits say she now lives and thrives in the desert.

A character similar in appearance to Naval Piranha, though slightly smaller, makes an appearance in Paper Mario as a boss; it is called Lava Piranha.

Cheat

A famous cheat, exclusive to only this boss, is that Yoshi can beat her before the fight even starts. If Yoshi stands on the very edge of the ledge she stands on, he can simply throw an egg at her "unmodified" form to kill her in one hit. Kamek will then come in, surprised, only to scream "OH MY!!" and fly off again.

Trivia

  • Like Birdo and Vivian, Naval Piranha has had some controversy about her gender, probably due to the fact that you can't really see physichally if Naval is a female. Naval's gender was not told in her first appearance, so fans mostly referred her as a "he". But the other games where Naval Piranha has appeared, have confirmed her gender as a female.
