Uploading Images
Hello, Prpro=03. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:
When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the aboutfile template, replacing the uncategorized template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use: or Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
Hi, please make sure to not leave those lines for the description blank when uploading files. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:29, 5 July 2018 (EDT)
- Hello! When adding the category, there should always be a game category, such as Category:Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Images. Also, the correct coding is

, rather than
, as that would incorrectly transclude the category. --TheFlameChomp (talk) 17:48, 5 July 2018 (EDT)
Hello, Prpro=03. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the aboutfile template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded syntax is shown below. Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line for the parameter(s) you don't use. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using aboutfile incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing. |
In addition to the aboutfile problems and the categorizing problems you were already warned for above, you also had the wrong licensing information. When you upload a screenshot of a game, it's always game-screenshot ("Video game screenshot" on the selection screen) no matter where it came from. In contrast, video-screenshot should only be used for video series that are exclusive to video-broadcasting sites, such as the case with File:Rescue V-Fearless Color Defenders.png. Thanks and keep on contributing! (T|C) 20:04, 5 July 2018 (EDT)
Regarding reuploads, you have to clear the browser cache by pressing Ctrl + F5 to see the most recent upload. No need to upload a separate version of the image. 10:36, 7 July 2018 (EDT)
This is a warning to stop your inappropriate behavior (misusing aboutfile / forgetting to categorise files) on the Super Mario Wiki. Please adhere to the rules or you will be blocked from editing this site. If you feel this warning was undeserved, you may appeal it. |
You've still been forgetting to categorise files and correctly filling out the aboutfile template. Please remember the above guidelines when uploading images. Mario JC 01:13, 9 August 2018 (EDT)
Template:Lastwarn You were warned about not filling out the aboutfile/removing it completely and categorizing literally yesterday. Continue to not do both and you will face a temporary block. 22:44, 10 August 2018 (EDT)
It doesn't look like you quite got it, sorry. The text "aboutfile" should stay, and the category should replace uncategorized and linked properly as TheFlameChomp explained above. You can look at your previous uploads as examples to see how other users have done it for you, take your time reading through the instructions above step-by-step, and if you have any questions, just ask. Mario JC 06:41, 13 August 2018 (EDT)
The aboutfile on your recent upload was mostly correct (though it is unnecessary to keep variables if no information fits them). However, you are still using the incorrect coding for the category. Please follow the information I gave you previously, and also make sure to check your other uploads to see how people fixed the coding, as Mario jc said above. --TheFlameChomp (talk) 10:08, 3 September 2018 (EDT)
Images should also have their extension be lower-case, such as "png" rather than "PNG". 15:50, 9 September 2018 (EDT)
For your last two images, in addition to the extensions needing to be lowercase ("png" instead of "PNG"), you're still not getting the category links correct. It's not difficult; you just type "Category:" followed by image category's name (e.g. "Super Mario Party Images") in square brackets like a normal link. You're on a last warning and have been corrected on this multiple times, and while I don't think this warrants an immediate block, it might come to that if this happens again. Remember, the advice on your talk page (and other file pages) are always there if you're ever unsure. Mario JC 06:50, 8 October 2018 (EDT)
Please remember to upload with lowercase extensions. Just change the "PNG" part in the "Destination filename" field to "png" when uploading. Mario JC 08:58, April 18, 2019 (EDT)

Hey how do I add a request with specific text?

Mario Party 9
Most of the game's aesthetics are based on New Super Mario Bros. Wii, so there's really no need to mention that in every minigame. Mario JC 22:18, 3 August 2018 (EDT)
Italics
Please remember to italicise game (and series) titles as well, like Mario Party series and Mario Party 10. Mario JC 09:11, 6 August 2018 (EDT)
- Just a heads up, though, italics won't work with quotation marks or curly (smart) apostrophes; they should be straight apostrophes. If you're using an iPhone, you can use them by holding the apostrophe key down and selecting it, or you can turn smart quotes off altogether by going to Settings > General > Keyboard > Smart Punctuation. Otherwise, you can simply click the I icon above the text box and type the name in. Mario JC 22:12, 8 August 2018 (EDT)
Smash 4
Please avoid using the term "Smash 4" (or "SSB4" etc.) to refer to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U on articles in the future, as it is a fan term and not official. Mario JC 03:26, 9 August 2018 (EDT)
A few tips
Hi. Just a few pointers on page creation for the future.
- When creating a page, make sure to categorize it properly. For example, for Simon Belmont, place the text

underneath the rest of the page. - Also remember to place at the bottom of the page, one for each game the subject appears in. For Simon, SSBU should have been placed on the page.
- When placing images, don't just place the raw image. Add the
thumb
parameter to the image link and maybe some text, like this:
That results in the image to the right.
- At the top of a character page, though, don't just put an image, put an infobox. There are several types. Some of them are: character-infobox (for general characters), SSB Infobox (for Smash Bros. characters), various enemy infoboxes (for RPG enemies), etc. I suggets you look at a few to learn how they work. They're all pretty similar.
Thanks for reading. Keep contributing!

- Just wanted to remind you to include categories and navigation templates when creating articles, as stated above, as several of your recent page creations were still missing them. --TheFlameChomp (talk) 11:14, 21 October 2018 (EDT)
Super Mario Odyssey Pre-release and unused content
Can someone check to make sure I didn’t make any sort of errors in that section?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Prpro=03 (talk).
- Found a few spelling errors, but other than that, it's good enough to split the section into the full subpage! Mario JC 07:09, 17 August 2018 (EDT)
I found a website with a ton of Beta elements for Super Mario Odyssey (http://club.beta64.tv/2017/11/20/super-mario-odyssey/) should we use as many from this site as possible when we make a subpage?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Prpro=03 (talk).
- Of course! Anything from early footage that's different from the final game goes. Just remember to cite them as references in the format outlined here. Mario JC 08:47, 18 August 2018 (EDT)
- Also, remember to sign your comments with

When adding images to this page should I put both the early image/screenshot alongside the final version’s or just the early one? Prpro=03 (talk) 09:50, 19 August 2018 (EDT)
- That's up to you. If you want to compare them with multiple image, sure. If you're thinking about adding images in the gallery format, probably just the early images since galleries aren't really suited for comparisons. Mario JC 10:07, 19 August 2018 (EDT)
I could use some help with this page especially with finding images and listing the beta elements from the website i mentioned.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Prpro=03 (talk).
- You could try searching "super mario odyssey e3 2017" on YouTube, then take a screenshot to crop out and upload here. I've tried it before and it works fine.
- Additionally, as Mario jc reminded you for above, please remember to sign your posts, even those on your own talk page, with four consecutive tildes (~~~~) so that we know what comments you made. Thanks! (T|C) 12:00, 20 August 2018 (EDT)
Incomplete info
It's bad practice to deliberately leave incomplete sentences or information for users to fill it in later, so please don't do that. If you don't know, just leave it out. Mario JC 22:01, 3 October 2018 (EDT)

Wii Fit?
Is it only me that noticed that Wii Fit Trainer's Final Smash isn't on the Final Smash page?

Citation
When adding information on upcoming games, especially lesser known info not found in high-publicity videos like the Direct, please try to source them using the referencing format. Failing to cite your edits may lead to them getting removed. That said, do you think you could provide a source for the Ice Climbers' new victory theme? Mario JC 07:36, 10 November 2018 (EST)
Please follow the notice at the top of the article. Even if a game might be drawing closer to release or even nearly coming out, it's still upcoming so that shouldn't mean any information added should be left unsourced. I was lenient back with the Mario Maker 2 edits you made weeks prior to its release (since it was close to release and had gotten plenty of coverage online) but please start making it a habit of referencing upcoming content like other users are doing. Mario JC
Keep MarioWiki:Citations#Multiple citations of the same source in mind when doing this. The first time you cite a source to be referenced multiple times, you type
. The next time is simply
, but it won't work unless you gave the original reference a name. Mario JC 00:03, October 4, 2019 (EDT)
Previewing edits
Hey, please remember to check your edits before leaving them (previewing them with "Show preview" helps too); there was a table error here that you wouldn't have missed if you had just looked over the edit, similar to another edit you made a month ago. Mario JC 00:39, 26 December 2018 (EST)

It's not very hard at all. Simply type in four tildes. This is what a tilde looks like: ~ Mari0fan100 (talk) 20:47, 13 February 2019 (EST)
Contactions
Hello, contractions such as there's should not be used unless they are in things such as quotes, so for example there's would be there is. Thanks! Doomhiker (talk) 21:42, March 23, 2019 (EDT)
Capitalisation
Just to let you know, we don't capitalise words in header titles (except for the first word) if they're not proper nouns. So "Pre-Release and Unused Content" and "Debut Trailer" should just be "Pre-release and unused content" and "Debut trailer". Mario JC 01:14, May 16, 2019 (EDT)
- Additionally, when uploading files, use lowercase extensions (png over PNG, jpg over JPG). Trig - 11:45, August 31, 2019 (EDT)
