Crocodile Isle (Donkey Kong 64)

Template:Location-infobox Template:Quote2 Crocodile Isle[1] (also referred to as Crocodile Rock[2], K. Rool's Mobile Island Fortress[3], and K. Rool Island[4]) is a massive naval fortress made of metal which serves as King K. Rool's base of operations in Donkey Kong 64. It was apparently modeled after K. Rool himself. The ship has an engine and can be moved through the sea with its two ships' screws. The base is operated and mainly serviced by Kritters, although in some cutscenes they are shown to have little knowledge about the machinery and mainly use force to keep the base operational. In the center of the ship, a large laser cannon called Blast-o-Matic is installed. This fragile machine is also maintained by Kritters. The leader of the Kremling Krew, King K. Rool, resides in a chamber that resembles a throne room. It is located in Hideout Helm, the last world of the game.

History

Donkey Kong 64

During the events of Donkey Kong 64, King K. Rool orders his servants to move the ship to DK Isles. He attempts to use the Blast-o-Matic to destroy Kong Isle, thereby taking revenge on Donkey Kong and his friends. Unbeknownst to K. Rool, an argument starts between the two Kritters in charge of the steering wheel, as they cannot decide whether to move the ship to the right or to the left. The Purple Klaptrap who controls the steering wheel gets distracted by the argument and the ship crashes against a solid rock, which causes the Blast-o-Matic to break. K. Rool, angry about the delay of his plans, tells his guards to steal Donkey Kong's Banana Hoard and to capture his friends to keep Donkey Kong distracted, while the Kremlings are fixing the broken laser cannon.

During the game, the player can access several worlds through different parts of the metallic island. K. Lumsy's prison island is also attached to it. The last world of the game, Hideout Helm, is located at the top of the Kremling base. The Kongs come here to shut down the Blast-o-Matic and battle the Kremling King, although the latter manages to escape in the last second.

If the player fails to help the Kongs in their quest to save their home, the player can witness the Blast-o-Matic cannon getting ready to fire at Kong Isle in the Game Over screen; in the proper ending, it is missing during the credits sequence, and as there is no wreckage it is thought to have retreated from DK Isles.

Areas

  • K. Lumsy's Prison: A floating nearby island that is attached to the main island, where K. Lumsy is being held captive.
  • Frantic Factory: An extremely hazardous toy factory filled with various mechanical foes. Mad Jack is fought here.
  • Gloomy Galleon: A shipwreck-filled lagoon, which, while seemingly not part of Crocodile Isle itself, is accessed through it. Puftoss is fought here.
  • Creepy Castle: A haunted castle floating high above the island, filled with ghosts and illusions. King Kut Out is fought here.
  • Hideout Helm: The location where both K. Rool and the Blast-o-Matic are located, although the former flees when the Kongs reach him.

Crocodile Isle in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Crocodile Isle reappears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of King K. Rool's Final Smash, in which he fires the Blast-o-Matic at Donkey Kong Island. The island has been redesigned, now being a natural island instead of a naval fortress; the top is now shiny and golden, while the body of it has been simplified.
