A Bumper is a shield-like item in Super Smash Bros. It remained on the ground when thrown, damaging players who bumped into it, hence then name Bumper. There was also a bumper floating above the Peach's Castle stage. For unknown reasons, the Flipper, which is just like the Bumper, took its place in Super Smash Bros. Melee, though in Super Smash Bros. Brawl the Bumper makes its reappearance. Bumpers in this game can float in midair when thrown making it wise to use them as deterrents for enemies trying to get back up ledges. Bumpers can also lie on the surface if thrown downward toward the ground.
