Poltergeist
Template:Species-infobox Poltergeists (called Boffins in the PAL versions) are a type of ghost in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. They are orange and possess large brains. While Luigi explores the Gloomy Manor, Professor E. Gadd insists he capture this ghost for research. An Ancient Poltergeist is the mini-boss of Old Clockworks, and a Strong Poltergeist is the mini-boss of Treacherous Mansion. Poltergeists also appear in the bonus mission in Gloomy Manor and the Old Clockworks. The Brain, the final boss encountered in the ScareScraper is the same as the regular Poltergeist except he is much larger and he has 300 HP or more depending on number of players and difficulty.
Abilities
Poltergeist abilities
The Poltergeist has the power to move objects with telekinesis. When Luigi fights the Poltergeist, it throws books at him while he searches for it. It can even throw books at Luigi while it is being sucked into the Poltergust 5000 to get away. When the Strobulb is used on it while it is carrying a book, it blocks the light using the book. It also plays the piano during the entire battle. In the Old Clockworks bonus mission, instead of books, it throws the bricks placed around the room.
The Brain
Template:LMDMghost-infobox The Brain is the final boss of the co-op ScareScraper mode. He is an unusually large Poltergeist who is fought atop the tower's roof. He has much higher HP than other Poltergeist variants and also has the ability to charge up a force field that he can project to knock away any Luigis that are vacuuming him (though this can be avoided by jumping when the force field is released). Unlike the other bosses in the ScareScraper, which are randomly chosen when the boss' floor is reached, The Brain is always fought when the roof is reached, and he has no texture-swapped variants like the other bosses.
When defeated, fireworks shoot up in the sky behind the tower and the Luigi who defeated him's Poltergust releases a large amount of coins, bills, and Gold Bars.

Ghost Container description
- Poltergeist: These big-headed know-it-alls have swollen brains (and egos) that afford them telekinetic power. Sadly, their sense of humour seems to be underdeveloped.
- The Brain: This cunning ghost is the most evolved of all the Poltergeists. He awaits ghost hunters who are both brave and smart enough to match his powers.

Trivia
- In the bonus missions of Gloomy Manor and Old Clockworks, if Luigi has to clear a room where a Poltergeist was fought in the campaign, a normal one will appear in the room.
