Sidestepper
...aka: Kani-San (Japanese Famicom version)
...aka: Crab (US NES version)
Overview
A red crab that scuttles sideways. When you make it angry, it bares its teeth and moves much faster.
Mario Bros.
(Arcade 1983)
Sidestepper is the second enemy you encounter, on Stage 4. It comes out of the pipes and walks sideways at the same speed as a Shellcreeper. When you hit it from below, it gets angry and speeds up. Hit it again from below to knock it over, then run into it to defeat it. If you fail to run into it fast enough, it will flip itself back over and move faster.
Sidestepper also appears in all remakes of Mario Bros.
Mario Clash
(Virtual Boy 1995)
Sidestepper comes out of the pipes and scuttles sideways. Hit it in the front or back with a Shell to turn it sideways, then hit it in the side with another Shell to defeat it.
Mario Power Tennis
(Gamecube 2004)
On the Mario Bros. Classic court, the original enemy sprites are used. During a Gimmick game, Sidesteppers might walk across the court and trip your character.
Mario Kart DS
(Nintendo DS 2005)
After years of using generic crab obstacles, the crabs on the Beach stages in this game are angry Sidesteppers.
