- Squawks the Parrot (pictured) is the only Animal Friend to appear in every installment of the Donkey Kong Country series.

- In the North American version of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, during the fight against Sunnycide, the five Yoshis that hatch have the following color order: Green, Black, Blue, Cyan, and Pink. In the Japanese version, the second Yoshi is Yellow instead of Black.
- In the Italian version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Francesca's name Romoletta, paired with Frankie's name Giuliano, makes a reference to Romeo and Juliet, whose love is impossible due to their families.
