- The rock formations on top of the two mountains in Toad Road (pictured) from Mario Party 9 are shaped like an "M" and "P", and the island is shaped like a 9, standing for the game's title.
- In the introduction of the Japanese version in Super Mario Sunshine, Mario can be heard saying, "Looks like a giant-," with the rest inaudible. After Princess Peach notices the presence of Shadow Mario, Mario says, "Looks like Mario is going to have to find a new job", and Toadsworth replies, "Are you starting a new career?" These dialogues were removed from the American introduction.
- Prince Haru from Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen! is the only character in Mario series other than Mario with whom Princess Peach has a romantic relationship.
- In the Japanese version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Larson's house had a Toad-shaped chalk outline and dried blood on the floor. This was removed in the North America version.
