Template:Event-infobox Dream Race is the first Dream Event in the Wii and DS versions of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Like the other Dream Events, it is fictional and is not in the real Olympic Games. It is not based off any particular event, but does borrow elements from the Athletics events as well as the Mario Kart series. In the Wii version, Dream Race takes place on a track known as the Sandhill Track Course, while the DS version takes place at Blue Sky Highway.

Items

Wii version

  • Speed Boost: Automatically speeds the player up for five seconds. It is similar to the Mushroom in the Mario Kart series.
  • Starman: Renders the player invincible against all items and hazards, excluding Boo.
  • Bomb: Blows up opponents if ran into, slowing them down.
  • Boo: Hinders the player in first place for a moment until the player runs over a Speed Boost.
  • Green Shell: Hits opponents, or breaks down hurdles.
  • Red Shell: Homes in on a random opponent.
  • Lightning: Shocks all players ahead of the user, slowing them down.
  • Chaos Emerald: Uses the effects of the lightning on all opponents and gives the user invincibility.

DS version

  • Mushroom: Similar to the Speed Boost in the Wii version, the Mushroom speeds up the player up for five seconds.
  • Green Shell: Hits opponents.
  • Red Shell: Homes in on a random opponent.
  • Bomb: Blows up opponents if ran into, slowing them down.
  • Shield: Makes the player invincible to one item or hurdle.
  • Block: Drops in front of the opponents.

Obstructions

There are three obstacles that slow players down on the course.

  • Sand Trap: If run into, the player slows down automatically. (Wii only)
  • Egg Pawn: Starting on lap three, they appear to walk around on the course. When run into, they blow up and slow the player down. (Wii only)
  • Hurdle: Works as the Hurdles do in Field events. If not jumped over, the player will crash into it and lose speed.
