Hey
Hey, this seems like a great project. Are we able to formally sign up? I'm interested in the Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga images.
Shokora (talk · edits) 02:56, 10 May 2013 (EDT)
- Go ahead. I guess I'll set up a discussion here, although, I was supposed to set up a thread within the MarioWiki forums in the wiki collaboration section and call up interested file uploaders. I'm adding L151 (talk) because she's contributing as well. Keep in mind that some of the files I listed may be impossible to accomplish, so don't get overly stressed if one file remains uncrossed. Also keep in mind that the list you're seeing is from 2010; I'm just transfering the stuff after clearing out the file links that went in the red. I might actually make a 2013 version where I'll have to rescan the whole database again, manually, and not only put in my strict standards based on my experience uploading hi-quality stuff, but also files that aren't the wiki potentially needing an upload. --RAP... 03:12, 10 May 2013 (EDT) I was supposed to return to NIWA, and especially my Nintendo Wiki after a long hiatus due to college after dropping this from my hard drive. I have a feeling I'll be working on all three in the future. Not really bad, just more stressed than I can possibly imagine.
It's now done! Quick links have been created for ease of access to jumpstart working on the stuff by major sections. Will be spreading the word regarding this. 2013 version may or may not be possible at this time. --RAP... 04:59, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
- Great! So you said that the downside is updating the image links on the page which have been reuploaded as better quality? I could help out as necessary, if you would like.
- Shokora (talk · edits) 05:27, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
- You helping? Sorry, the wiki doesn't anyone else edit a userpage if it is not theirs.
It would only say "View Source" if I try to edit say your main userpage.Unless you're an admin, and of then course. I edited peoples' userpages all the time behind the scenes when I was an admin (old-school term is sysop because it sounds awesome in my opinion); most of the time cleaning up their interface and replacing the old images with the new images. Tis a thankless job. --RAP... 05:39, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
- You helping? Sorry, the wiki doesn't anyone else edit a userpage if it is not theirs.
- Yeah I asked because I'm a sysop, and I'm able to edit the page.
- Shokora (talk · edits) 05:41, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
- Wait, you're a sysop? And you just got these this month? Congrats dude! I have no idea how you got these (since I just came back and considering working on NIWA, my Nintendo Wiki and MarioWiki at the same time) but you definitely did something that made the higher-ups notice your work in the wiki. --RAP... 05:45, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
- Thanks for the kind words! But did you not see my name in green on recent changes, which identifies sysops?
- Shokora (talk · edits) 05:48, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
- I think that might be my sleepiness causing me to forget you're a recent sysop. I'm going to actually sleep before I physically and mentally harm myself in the long run. We'll definitely talk more later; definitely on resources in general. --RAP... 05:58, 12 May 2013 (EDT) I may be typing properly in spite of the need for the snoozes, but it's taking a beating toll if this keeps up.
PNG Monster
For those who are unaware, I highly recommend that you use PNG Monster for all the data compression for PNGs. The program compresses the image without losing quality. This is because PNG files are designed to be lossless, meaning it retains the same look, but takes less bytes when compressed further. Be sure to read instructions and notes on how to operate it. Try to practice it a bit; I know I had get into this mindset one way or another. --RAP... 05:24, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
MarioWiki boards
I've now set up another hub for discussion and collaboration within the MarioWiki forums: http://www.marioboards.com/index.php?topic=25166.0
This one has all of the info on the existence of these files; a nice backstory per say. If you want to collab there instead of here, go ahead! --RAP... 22:45, 12 May 2013 (EDT)
Images that aren't in mainspace
http://www.mariowiki.com/File:Twisted_Garlic.jpg shouldn't count since it's not mainspace-linked, in my opinion. I already replaced it with a higher-quality image a while ago, as well. Is it alright if this section is used to point out cases like this? - Turboo (talk) 19:25, 13 May 2013 (EDT)
- Yes, definitely. I'm human after all, and it's possible that I missed some of these along the way. I even tried clearing those links off that aren't in the mainspace when this project is brought up again. They will be removed instead of crossed out, but it only applies if the image was not intended to be replaced for mainspace. Since that's not the case for the fact that you saw the file and uploaded a higher-quality version of the image under PNG, I will put a note next to the file link instead and have it crossed out instead of being removed. --RAP... 13:03, 15 May 2013 (EDT)
File list
File:Blooper_Surfing_Safari.PNG isn't beta, the obstacles are in the same postion as in the game. I also uploaded, higher version of File:PeachFlyinginPlane.PNG, File:Wiggler Ahoy! Full Steam Ahead!.PNG.
- Done. --RAP... 13:03, 15 May 2013 (EDT) I'll recheck the lists and the new file uploads again to see if I'm missing more to be crossed out. It'll be later due to college finals coming up.
Wiki collaboration goal established
I recommend reading more of the details in this post. Basically, I made a goal for this collaboration. The minimum we should reach is 90% (bronze). The other two are: 95% (silver), and 100% (gold). We're currently at 0.9 percent. I set up the progress status over here as well.
Also, please be aware that I'm still focusing on college, and especially with finals coming up. Progress may be delayed, so keep that in mind. Have a good one. Feel free to ask any questions or discuss. --RAP... 04:04, 24 May 2013 (EDT)
ATTENTION: YoshiKong (talk) – adding entries
I checked your edits by comparing my last edit in that page with your edits in this link. I appreciate that you're helping by adding more entries that need to be tackled, but my wiki collaboration wasn't intended to have users add additional entries at all. The goal of the wiki collaboration is to tackle the entries from the list that was complied back in 2010 with better quality files, and only that.
Being aware that it has been two years since I scanned the whole database, I'm planning for another wiki collaboration when a big chunk of this wiki collaboration is done; around 70-90%. However, the next file wiki collaboration will have more stricter rules and standards.
A quick peek for those strict rules and standards from the top of my head:
- compression
- articles needing image files with Template:Image
- articles needing additional image files needed with Template:MoreImages
- converting into SVG files
There might be more rules and standards to be added.
Optionally, I could perform another manual quality scan of the whole file database of the whole wiki right now in the rules and standards of 2010, but it's more tedious if I keep finding the same entries as the ones I found back in that same year than the new entries. Thanks for adding new entries, but I don't really think it was necessary for this wiki collaboration for the reasons I said above. Thanks. --RAP... 03:16, 25 May 2013 (EDT)
- Oh sorry, I wasn't aware that we couldn't add more entries. Shall it be removed?
Of course, let's focus on doing all we can for this list first.
