Old school death traps
A huge fish in Super Mario Bros. 3 that stays on the surface of the water trying to lunge out and eat you if you get too close. In some of the levels they appear in the platforms above the water rise and sink, making you an easy target. Throwing blocks and fireballs can defeat them, but they'll come back eventually.
