King Bob-omb
- “I'm the Big Bob-omb, baron of all blasting matter, king of ka-booms the world over! Incredible! You made it this far even without a mustache. I commend your courage. Be that as it may, I can't just give you my precious power star. You must defeat me in battle if you want it! You'll be quite helpless facing my Bob-omb minions. Now put your tongue back in your mouth. It's quite undignified. Let's battle!”
- —Big Bob-omb, Super Mario 64 DS
Big Bob-omb, sometimes called King Bob-omb because of his crown, is the first boss you'll fight in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS. Guarding the Power Star, Bowser entrusted him with, he won't give it up without a fight. In Super Mario 64, Mario merely have to run around to the back of him, pick him up, and toss him 3 times. Only then will he give up the Star. But don't throw him off the mountain, or he will accuse you of cheating and you will have to start over. He is chivalrous, a trait not seen in many Marioverse characters.
In Super Mario 64 DS, he is fought twice. The first time is as Yoshi, and instead of picking him up, Yoshi had to lick up Bob-ombs he threw them at Yoshi and spit them back at him before they explode in your mouth. Three Bob-omb hits, and he's down. The second time, he can only be defeated by one of the three plumbers and use the same strategy used in Super Mario 64.
He made a cameo appearance in Mario Party 5 in one minigame and in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour on a golf course. Hitting him will make him explode and in ring mode the golfer must hit a ring he's wearing.
In Mario Party Advance he is the leader of the Bob-omb Mafia which protects Shroom City.
He became an item in Mario Superstar Baseball in a minigame and produced around 400-500 points causing fireworks to appear.
In Mario Kart DS, Big Bob-omb is a boss in Mission Mode. Similar to Super Mario 64 DS, you have to pick up Bob-ombs and throw them at him.
Trivia
- He looks and attacks very similar to Chuckyas, even more so than Bob-ombs. Unlike most (or all) Bob-ombs, he has arms and spherical hands.
