Glitches

Template:Conjecturaltext

An inaccessible Manhole cover can be seen if the player looks inside the jail cell with the Blue Coin in the southeast corner of Delfino Plaza when Delfino Plaza is flooded.

Template:Conjecturaltext

The player must first gain the Turbo Nozzle. Then they must switch to the regular nozzle, and push the R button all the way down. The player must move the control stick up and down quickly, and push X. The Turbo Nozzle will charge up, but instead of propelling Mario forwards, it will act as the regular nozzle, backwards.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In Gelato Beach, where the eight red coin reef is located, have a Cheep-Cheep follow Mario to a walkable coral reef top. When it's up on the top, the Cheep-Cheep will be stuck on the top, and Mario being able to go right through it. Oddly, its animation will still be in motion even after it has been beached.

Template:Conjecturaltext

If the player gets the Turbo Nozzle in Delfino Plaza, and heads to the fruit stands, something very odd may occur. While standing slightly against the wall behind the papayas and pineapples (in which case Mario's body should touch the wall, but he should not be directly facing it), Mario can blast his Turbo Nozzle, and before reaching the durians, he will go right through it into some underground area. If Mario stops, he'll automatically die, but it is possible that Mario will come across an underground pipeline to run into.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In Noki Bay, the player must take the boat and navigate it to the boundary. If Mario jumps out of the boat at the last second, the boat will go outside of the boundary. NOTE: Mario cannot get the boat back.

Template:Conjecturaltext

If the player visits Pianta Village, squirts the ground in front of them, and dives forward to move faster, a glitch may occur. If the player slides on the bridge to Pianta Village, they might fall through the bridge, and die.

Template:Conjecturaltext

First, the player must search for the Dune Bud that leaves a large foot imprint, or the one that indicates a secret Shine Sprite. From there, the player should squirt the Dune Bud, and, just before it reveals the imprint in the ground, Ground Pound. If this is done correctly, Mario will be launched up to the sky, and do a quick, yet strong, Ground Pound. The camera then zooms in all the way down to Mario. (Mario is sometimes seen Ground Pounding downwards with the camera until it reaches Gelato Beach.) If it's done with Yoshi, pressing the "X" button after performing the glitch will make Mario fall for a long time.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In Gelato Beach, the player can stop a Bubba from dragging Mario underwater if the player picks up a piece of fruit (excluding durians) and starts swimming with it. A Bubba will follow Mario around (and sometimes even pass through him), but won't be able to drag him down.

Template:Conjecturaltext

While the cannon leading to Pinna Park is being repaired by the Pianta, it is possible for the player to ground pound into the cannon. The cannon must be pounded into near the edge, or the player will simply bounce off the Pianta. This will not send the player to Pinna Park though, they still need to unlock the level. If one changes the camera angle, they can see the inside of the repair Pianta. This also works for the Pianta that is in Pinna Park. Sometimes, however, the player will for some reason get teleported to Pinna Park after getting out of the cannon.[1]

Template:Conjecturaltext

When directly under a Shine Sprite, if the player is holding R all the way down while jumping, Mario will get the Shine Sprite and F.L.U.D.D. acts as it is squirting.

Template:Conjecturaltext

On Pinna Park, Mario should get in the park and find a fruit. He'll grab it and take it to the Yoshi-Go-Round, and then he puts it on an egg and the fruit should spin.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In the eighth Shine Sprite in Sirena Beach, Mario should then go to the pool room in the hotel and ground pound behind the Pianta. When Mario is behind the Pianta, he should talk to it. Then strangely, Mario will fall off the room and lose a life.Template:Refneeded

Template:Conjecturaltext

If the player gets the 100th coin in the sewers of Delfino Plaza, after the Shine Sprites appears, Delfino Plaza music will play instead of the Sewers Music.

Template:Conjecturaltext

The player should go to Pianta Village and select Fluff Festival Coin Hunt and go to the large tree and use the Hover Nozzle at the corner of the tree until Mario hits his head. Mario will then be stuck in that spot hitting his head. To undo the glitch press start click on EXIT.

Template:Conjecturaltext

Any time in Delfino Plaza (excluding the flood) if the player sprays the pineapples in the small fountain behind the Grand Pianta Statue or the papayas in the other fountain next to the entrance to Noki Bay, they will explode in the water as if the player had thrown them into the ocean.

Template:Conjecturaltext

During the events of the flood in Delfino Plaza, the player should use the walk underwater v.2 glitch as shown above and go to the beach area of the city. Mario will have to spray around the sand near the umbrellas until the player sees yellow sparks fly. Mario should focus by squirting water there until it reveals an image of a Shine Sprite that only gives the player one coin.

Template:Conjecturaltext

If Mario lets a Yoshi eat an enemy or fruit, but dismounts it while Yoshi's tongue is pulling it in, the Yoshi will remain in its bent-down position with the fruit or enemy floating right in front of it. The Yoshi's saddle will also hover slightly above the dinosaur's actual flesh. This also works if Mario lets Yoshi stick out his tongue, but then takes damage.

Template:Conjecturaltext

If the player grabs a fruit in Pinna Park and gets shocked by an Electro-Koopa, Mario will shake like he is being shocked. This wears off after a few paces.

Template:Conjecturaltext

The player must get the Rocket Nozzle or Turbo Nozzle then press R really lightly. If done correctly Mario will walk funnily until the player stops holding R.

Template:Conjecturaltext

The river in front of the Shine Gate has blue fish in it. If the player follows these fish, they will swim away from Mario. If he then follows the fish and leads them to a wall, the fish will swim through it. Also, in Gelato Beach, when playing through the Red Coins in the Coral Reef level, the player can chase the blue or red fish into a high part of the reef, and the fish will go through it as well.

Template:Conjecturaltext

If Mario picks up a fruit and tries to put it down while facing and touching a tree, the fruit will go inside the tree. It can be retrieved by facing the tree and pressing the B button.

Template:Conjecturaltext

The player should go behind the Grand Pianta Statue and backflip onto its cape. Just before landing, they should use the hover nozzle, and Mario will shoot upwards as if using the rocket nozzle, but not as high.

Template:Conjecturaltext

Several beta elements were left in the final game, but put in unreachable areas. These can be accessed as glitches through the use of a cheating device. One known element is a version of the crate smashing game in Delfino Plaza located high above the building housing the final version. It acts the same as the final version. Another such element is a yellow Toad telling Mario that Peach was kidnapped. He appears under his final counterpart in Delfino Plaza before Peach is taken to Pinna Park.

Template:Conjecturaltext

This glitch can only be performed on Gelato Beach. In order for it to work, the player must spray a Dune Bud by using F.L.U.D.D.'s Hover Nozzle to float over it, as opposed to using the Squirt Nozzle to water it from afar. More often than not, this will still result in Mario being flung into the air by the Dune Bud regardless. However, occasionally, the Dune Bud will explode out of the sand, and Mario will be left hovering inside of it. He is now completely free to move around inside the Dune Bud until it forms back down into the sand (the player will now see Mario's silhouette through the Dune Bud just as they normally would when Mario stands behind or under another object). The player must have precise timing when doing this, and must be in exactly the right place over the Dune Bud when hovering to make it work correctly.

Template:Conjecturaltext

It is unknown what triggers this glitch, but while standing next to the entrance pipe to Pianta Village, Mario may not fall asleep while the game is left untouched for a long period of time. Due to unknown conditions for this glitch, it is worth noting that Mario was facing the camera when seen.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In order to do this glitch, the player must go to Bianco Hills. Use the Turbo Nozzle to ride over the lake and then come out and go onto the small hill next to the wheel on the right. They must jump and if done right, Mario will go through the wheel.

Template:Conjecturaltext

If the player uses the Rocket Nozzle in front of the entrance to the boathouse repeatedly, the player will eventually see the inside of the boathouse. If the player falls outside the boathouse, Delfino Plaza will disappear. Only NPCs, fruits, and the cannon will be visible. The glitch ends if the player enters a level.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In Pianta Village, if Mario is to fall down side of the rope bridge, he will die. However, sometimes instead of dying Mario lands onto a white floor in an endless area. If the player is to look up they will see every area of the game sitting on top of big mushrooms. Mario is free to move, shoot water, etc, but is stopped by invisible barriers after a few meters. The only way out is to reset the software and it is not possible to save.

Template:Conjecturaltext

File:Default.jpg
The "Blue Screen of Death"

The "Blue Screen of death" is an area under most levels. If the player stays on the ground for too long, then they will die automatically.

In Gelato beach, Mario will have climb to the highest rope, then jump off to the west, if the player presses b at the right time before hitting the invisible barrier, Mario will fall back through the ground and into a blue void. This can also be done by jumping at the right time after using the Turbo Nozzle to run up the hill.

The player can also do it Delfino Plaza by going on the top of the Banana Tree and the player will have to jump and hover to an open window. The player will have to be above the open window, where the roof and building meet. Next, the player will be inside the building, in the Blue Room of Death. Mario will have to jump about every 3 seconds to avoid death. For Mario to get out, he'll have to do a Triple Jump, which puts Mario in the sewers, unless he has Yoshi with him, in which case he can triple jump back up into the plaza.

The glitch can be done another way in Delfino Plaza, by going under the deck near the entrance to Noki Bay. Then, using the turbo nozzle to run under the water, and jumping out, directly under the crate on the deck, very close to the wall. If preformed correctly, Mario should be inside the crate, if the player walks into the wall on the right, Mario should be in the Blue Screen and die.

A similar glitch occurs in Noki Bay. After a certain maneuver into a puddle at the base of the cliff from the first Shine Sprite, Mario will be underwater, but also under the cliff itself. If he swims too far into the cliff, he will lose a life upon reaching a blue screen of death.

In Bianco Hills, If Mario attempts to belly slide under the waterwheel at an angle, he'll get knocked through the ground and die before he can regain mobility.

In Delfino Plaza there is another location that can be fallen through in the hill to the right of the Shine Gate. Considering the location it is likely that Mario will land in the underground pipes.

Template:Conjecturaltext

This glitch requires the Turbo Nozzle. The player should hold down R slightly while looking to walk.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In Episode 4 of Pianta Village, if Mario falls into the water of the Pianta Hot Spring at the exact same time that the overheated Chain Chomp is making its way there, the Chain Chomp will enter the Pianta Sauna and stay there, causing Mario to end up inside the Chain Chomp. If the player tries to move Mario in this situation, Mario will fall through the ground and lose a life.

Template:Conjecturaltext

The player must go to Gelato Beach. They should go over to where the Dune Bud that has the hidden Shine Sprite in it. Mario should stand right on the very edge of the area that the Dune Bud makes an effect on. Then, squirt the Dune Bud, and with good timing, right when the Dune Bud takes effect, Ground Pound. Mario will be launched high up into the air, still ground pounding. It will take Mario a couple of minutes to land. By moving the camera around, the player can see that they are extremely far away from Isle Delfino. If the player does this glitch while on Yoshi, Mario and the dino will be launched even higher. Sometimes, Mario will be Ground Pounding endlessly, with Isle Delfino nowhere in sight. The only way to stop the glitch if this happens is by reseting or turning off the Gamecube or Wii.

This glitch is similar to the Broken Camera in Gelato Beach glitch.

Template:Conjecturaltext

If Mario jumps up high when collecting a Shine Sprite, he can enter first-person view while in the air and change the camera angle. When he lands and the "You Got a Shine Sprite!" cutscene is shown, the camera angle will be offset and show Mario either from the side or from behind during the cutscene. The player can also do this in any of the Shadow Mario episodes in each of the levels. When Shadow Mario has been caught, and the Shine Sprite he releases flies into the air, the player must position Mario directly under it and immediately go into first-person view. If the player does the glitch this way, they can additionally squirt water from F.L.U.D.D. while in first-person mode, which will cause F.L.U.D.D.'s nozzle to be going through Mario's cap during the cutscene, as well as performing a squirting action, even though no water will be released.

Template:Conjecturaltext

When Mario goes to a place with a mirror such as Gelato Beach, he should look into a mirror and see that F.L.U.D.D.'s head seems to be missing in the reflection.

Template:Conjecturaltext

When the lighthouse leading to Gelato Beach is covered by paint, the block that normally sits on top of it is still there, floating in the air.

Template:Conjecturaltext

When Mario has a fruit (excluding a Durian), if he gets behind a sign, tree, or anything bigger than Mario, the shadow of the fruit will disappear.

Template:Conjecturaltext

The player must go to Ricco Harbor and choose "Gooper Blooper Returns". When there, go to where the first Gooper Blooper fight was held and try to jump onto the arched wall to the right, or just use the Rocket Nozzle. Try to spray Gooper Blooper from there. If the water reaches Gooper Blooper, he will extend his arms and they will land almost all the way across the gap between the helipad and Mario. If the player does this while standing at the closest point to him (The top-right corner of the rectangular part the extends out), Where Gooper Blooper can reach Mario, and he can jump on its tentacles, but Mario can't grab them due to the tentacles being slightly lower then the wall. Also, his arms seem to land on an invisible floor that Mario can't stand on.

Template:Conjecturaltext

A Super Mario Sunshine glitch.
The mysterious book in Noki Bay.

In Noki Bay, once inside the bottle in the Red Coins in a Bottle level, the player must allow Mario to fall to the bottom of the bottle, and then locate a small rock formation there. If the player maneuvers Mario into a small square opening towards the back right of the rock formation, they will find a small door inside the opening which is impossible to open. Therefore, the player must rotate the camera in order to see what's on the other side of the door. In doing so, the player will see a brown book lying on the floor of the room behind the impassable door, though its purpose is unknown. Actually reaching the book itself proves slightly difficult. To do so, the player must first have F.L.U.D.D.'s Hover Nozzle equipped, and then position Mario just before the opening in the rock formation leading to the door. The player must then attempt to hover toward the door without hovering fully into the opening. If done correctly, Mario will hover through the roof of the opening and find himself inside the room where the brown book is. However, Mario cannot physically touch the book.[2]

Template:Conjecturaltext

First, the player must go to the underground tunnel by the police Piantas in Delfino Plaza and go underground. From there, the player should squirt water in front of them. Immediately after that, slide downward without stopping; when the player reaches the bottom, instead of hitting his head, Mario will still be in the sliding position, but will not be moving because of the wall. The sound of Mario sliding will also be heard. To stop, the player should jump.

Template:Conjecturaltext

File:NokiGlitch.PNG
The glitch in action.

While in Pinna Park Episode 7 when a Swipin' Stu steals Mario's cap he will slowly lose health due to the heat. While capless, talk to a NPC (Non-Playable Character) and wait a few seconds. Mario will lose all his health points automatically and will not actually lose a life until the player press the A button to finish talking to the NPC. Instead, while talking to the NPC, Mario will fall to the ground, as if he was defeated.[3]

Template:Conjecturaltext

When Mario begins at Delfino Plaza, he should head to the East bell tower. Mario should stand on the first thin ledge halfway up the tower and face the Grand Pianta Statue. The player should now enter first-person view and look upwards until the view is inside the bell tower. If done correctly, the player should see an inaccessible Rocket Nozzle Nozzle Box, which is hidden inside the bell tower for unknown reasons.

Template:Conjecturaltext

First, the player must release Yoshi from his egg. Next, the player must jump on any Nozzle Box while riding Yoshi. The player must then position themselves where the Nozzle Box was before breaking it open and dismount Yoshi. If done correctly, Yoshi will now be inside the Nozzle Box.

Template:Conjecturaltext

The player must first perform the "Frozen Yoshi and Floating Objects" glitch and then stay in the area where it was performed. If Mario hops back on the frozen Yoshi, he can continue to ride him around normally. But the first time after Mario hops back on that the Yoshi sticks his tongue out, the item that was frozen in front of him will suddenly appear. If the item was a fruit, it can conveniently be used to automatically refill Yoshi's juice capacity.

Template:Conjecturaltext

To do this trick, the player has to go to Sirena Beach and choose Episode 3. After getting Yoshi go to the attic and run into the first sleeping boo. Then go to the third floor and jump in the north-west corner. The player will be able to see Yoshi is flying randomly through the floor.

Template:Conjecturaltext

If Mario dismounts Yoshi in the air in Delfino Plaza over the durian fruit basket (the one on the side), Yoshi will land on the fruit basket and be shaking up and down. Also, Mario can walk through Yoshi without being blocked.

Template:Conjecturaltext

First, the player must go in the doorway to the box breaking game. Then, the player should wait for the end of the game. When there is about 1 second left on the clock, ground pound. If in the middle of ground pounding, the Pianta will speak to Mario like normal, but the player will be sitting in the air. When the Pianta is finished speaking, the player will finish ground pounding. this may take a couple of attempts.

Template:Conjecturaltext

At times when attempting the Blue Screen of Death glitch, the player will come across another glitch that allows them to sit in the boundary of a level.

In Gelato Beach, if the player is to go too far away from the ropes after using Rocket Nozzle and Ground Pound, they will get stuck inside the boundary. The player will look as if were sitting in the air. The only way to stop this is to release the R button.

In Noki Bay, when using the Rocket Nozzle to get as far out of the level as possible, the player will soon hit a boundary. Sometimes, when doing a ground pound, the player will get stuck inside the boundary in the same position as Gelato Beach.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In this episode, the player has to defeat the giant green Wiggler. When the player hears the slowdown, the player has to press the Z Button. Slower, deeper music will play. Also, with correct timing, the player will hear a speedy version of the music in a high note.

Template:Conjecturaltext

File:Lavabubbamarioss.JPG
Mario swimming in Corona Mountain's lava.

The player should go to Corona Mountain and stand where the first 1-Up Mushroom is found. Then he/she has to collide with the Lava Bubba in a certain point and the player will be able to swim in the lava. The reason for this is because the lava is not actually lava; it's floating Graffiti that kills the player in one hit. When Mario gets hit by the Lava Bubba, he is pushed under the 'Goop' before any life can be taken, allowing the player to swim in the water underneath.[4]

Template:Conjecturaltext

In Pianta Village, the player should jump off the bridge. If the player lands on the big branch, they may go through it as if it were not there and die. Interestingly, Mario stops his falling scream when touching the branch, but starts again when falling through. It is possible for the player to land in a completely white location with invisible walls keeping Mario in a small area. If one is to use the camera over the shoulder view and look up they will see each game location sitting on top of mushrooms.

Template:Conjecturaltext

The player must go to Ricco Harbor and choose "Gooper Blooper Breaks Out". Go to the metal crates that have the Gooper Blooper tentacle sticking out. Grab it and go towards the crates further back. The player will go through them. If he/she didn't grab the tentacle, it would act as a normal boundary.[5]

Template:Conjecturaltext

File:Tiny tree glitch.JPG
Mario standing next to a palm tree that has stopped growing in Gelato Beach.

When Mario sprays the ground with water from F.L.U.D.D. in certain levels, including Bianco Hills and Gelato Beach, a palm tree will instantly grow out of it. When this happens, the palm tree that comes out of the ground will occasionally not grow fully, and will therefore only be about half as large as it is normally supposed to be. However, if Mario then jumps toward the trunk of the small tree and attempts to climb it as he normally would, he will grab onto an invisible regular-sized trunk, which is where the trunk of the normal-sized tree would be if it weren't for the glitch.

Template:Conjecturaltext

During any episode of Pinna Park (excluding episodes one and two), Mario can try to ground pound the Pianta working in the cannon. It will take a few tries, but if done correctly, Mario will go under the Pianta and inside the cannon. This is also possible, in Delfino Plaza, on the cannon that leads to Pinna Park (before the cannon to Pinna Park is working).

Template:Conjecturaltext

If the player gets a Game Over screen when inside the bonus stage in the Delfino Plaza, when the game shows the continue screen, the player will hear Mario scream as if he fell from a high place, but only if he did fall from a high place. The player can tell when the glitch is about to happen because they will hear a strange "W-w-w-w-w-w" sound somewhat like Mario's voice. If the player has more than one life left, they will hear this sound, but they won't hear Mario actually scream.

Template:Conjecturaltext

File:Marioglitch.jpg
Mario walking underwater glitch.

If Mario walks through the sewers the player can find a path that leads Mario behind the Shine Gate, he will find a few pools of water. If he swims into the lowest one that is blocked off by a gate, if the player presses B in front of it, one of many glitches will occur. Mario will either be able to walk underwater in the pool without an underwater life meter, go through the gate and fall straight down into an area behind the waterfall, or fall into the sewers. If the first result occurs, then Mario can walk underwater as described above. He will walk as though he is on land. However, note that if Mario gets his whole body out of the water (For example, using the Rocket Nozzle), when he lands in the water, he will swim normally again. If the second result occurs Mario will land in a strange underground area. Running forward will result in hitting the wall behind the waterfall and dying, however running backwards will make him fall into the sewers. In both that and the third results, the sewers can be navigated and exited normally. There is also a fourth possibility, while falling through the ground as seen in possibility two and three, Mario needs to use the Hover Nozzle and hover to the water in front of the waterfall. If done correctly, Mario will be walking in the water. This way he can walk around the entire ocean in Delfino Plaza, but once again, when his body pops out of the water, he'll be swimming normally in the water again.

Also, in Ricco Harbor, if Mario goes to the crane near where you fought Gooper Blooper and jumps over the small wall, then waits until the crane goes onto his head and jumps, he'll fall down behind the wall. If he hits ground, then you jump through the wall and into water. If he lands in water, swim backward. Then go the other way and jump through the wall and into water.

Template:Conjecturaltext

First, the player must activate the flood by defeating Shadow Mario on every level. When Mario starts, he will be in front of the Shine Gate. Mario must swim over to the log floating in front of Mario and try surfacing under it. It will take a few tries, but if done correctly, Mario will experience one of two glitches. He will either be able to walk underwater or he will be in the blue screen of death. This will work with any log.

Template:Conjecturaltext

This works in Sirena Beach and early in Delfino Plaza. First, the player must pick up a water barrel and carry it into the shallow water at the beach. After going in as far as possible without swimming, put the barrel down. Now go to the other side and pick the barrel up again. Mario will go underwater with the barrel and be able to walk around.

Template:Conjecturaltext

To do this glitch, the player must do the crazy F.L.U.D.D. glitch, (See above) and hold R the entire time. When the player gets back to Isle Delfino, they can walk with the R button held all the way down. Another way to do it is to press START/PAUSE, then press the R button all the way down and then unpause. Mario will squirt water but will be able to move.

Template:Conjecturaltext

First, the player needs a Yoshi. The player will have to go to Gelato Beach. Once the player is there, Mario will have to ride a Yoshi and get onto the large juicer on the roof of the surf cabana, which makes it almost impossible for the player to get on it again, because once the player gets on, Mario will get flung off because of the sharpness of the juicer. Yoshi, however, will just stay there. To end this glitch, the player must touch the juicer with Mario and jump on Yoshi and walk like nothing ever happened.

Template:Conjecturaltext

To perform this glitch the player must perform the "Intangible Wheel" glitch, but they have to do it wrong and Mario will bounce back. After that, the player should just Turbo Nozzle into the wheel without jumping, and Mario should hit a spoke. If they were to try to go back out to the lake he'll touch an invisible wall. The spokes will move right through him. Moving to the other side, but not exiting the spokes' range and the player should try to go back the wall which will be farther in. For the player to end this glitch, they can simply get out of the spokes' range.

Template:Conjecturaltext

First the player would have to go to some fruit or an enemy Yoshi can eat. Then, the player should make Yoshi spit juice and while doing that, should press X. Yoshi will now have his mouth open, and its saddle will move about. If the player waits a second, it will be eating the fruit.

Template:Conjecturaltext

To do this, the player must jump with Yoshi, press X to dismount in mid air, then press L to Ground Pound back on to him instantly and then hold A to Flutter Jump. The second he stops fluttering, before touching the ground, the player must repeat the process. Using this, the player can get to the island that requires Yoshi to destroy the goop blocking the Pipe without wasting time going along the boats to get there. Unlike Super Mario Galaxy 2, this version of the glitch doesn't really make the player go up high, but can cross otherwise uncrossable gaps really quickly. [6]

Template:Conjecturaltext

To make this glitch occur the player must go to Sirena Beach and enter the hotel. Next, the player should hop on Yoshi and enter the attic. If the player were to run into a Sleepy Boo Mario will be flung off Yoshi as usual, but if the player tries to jump on Yoshi again he/she will fall off Yoshi again. The player won't be able to jump on Yoshi again unless they go downstairs to get Yoshi again or if Mario takes damage then jumps on Yoshi again.
