Glitches

Rarely, when a player finishes a race and leaves the results screen, the top left corner will say "The next match might have 13 players", although it should say 12. It also can, but unlikely, say more than 13 players (i.e. "The next match might have 14 players"). The next match will never have more than 12 players, though.

This glitch works in all modes, but is easier if done in multiplayer mode, due to the selection of teams. The first player needs to start a team race. When going to the review teams screen, the player needs to go back and start a solo race. If player one selected the blue team, when racers trail or throw a fake item box, it will be blue rather than red. However, as with the normal, red item boxes, anybody can trip on these blue fake items in a solo race.

A glitch from Mario Kart Wii.
The pokey trapped between the cacti.

In the Thwomp Desert tournament, if the player has the Pokey head rolling around the area, it may occasionally get jammed between three cacti, making it unable to roll around. When this happens, it will shake in place. This glitch makes the Pokey an easy target.

This can only be done in multiplayer. First, play as a Mii in multiplayer. Only one player has to make it to the parade. It doesn't matter between players 1 and 2. Next, play a new multiplayer game, and use the "Selecting the Same Character" glitch. Both players must make it to the parade now. If so, one player will seem to be wearing a hat with their mii's head on it. If done with a princess, and the princess is on a bike, one princess will be normal, but the one with the hat is wearing the dress. (It is only able to be done with the real characters coming in first and second, though this is still unkown for the moment.

If a Spiny Shell gets near the target and the alarm triggers, and the player is by a Cannon, a glitch may occur. The player must go into the Cannon, so they'll be shot out, without being hit by the Spiny Shell. The alarm may keep ringing while the player is being shot out of the Cannon, as if the Spiny Shell was just by them.

Occasionally when players run over a thin horizontal strip of a rainbow boost pad (like the ones in the beginning of Rainbow Road), they will sometimes get no boost, or their boost will be done twice. This glitch will usually happen at high speeds in 100cc or up and in a large kart or bike.

On Sherbert Land, if the player falls into the water while finishing the race, the character will be doing the winning/losing motions in the ice block.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In Dry Dry Ruins/Koopa Cape, right when any player leaves the ruins/tunnel. If the players get hit by a Spiny Shell, if done correctly, the music from the ruins/tunnel will be playing throughout the entire course. If players are on lap one, the music will keep playing until they exit the ruins/tunnel yet again. If they were on laps two or three, the music will return to normal when they cross the finish or enter the final lap.

In the second Spiky Topmen tournament, if the player pushes a Topman while it is very angled, as if it is going to land on its side, and it stops on one of the gaps that separate one of the outer rings, it will be in some fast, jittering, frozen animation. This glitch can also happen if the second Topman pushes the other Topmen, but both of these techniques are hard to do and are rare to see.

If the player activates a Mega Mushroom at the same time another player activates a thunderbolt, the first player will grow and immediately shrink back to normal size as it should. But if they get close to an opponent, the opponent will get squashed, like if the first player was big.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In the second Spiky Topman tournament, if the player falls off a certain area of the Galaxy Colosseum they can see a misplaced Item Box, all the way of the bottom of the pit.

Template:Conjecturaltext

Occasionally in an online race if the player gets to the finish line first while there is an opponent who necks the player but doesn't pass him/her, the player in the lead will be in the position that the "necking" player was at in the score board after the race.

The same character glitch.

The invisible kart with the second player.

This glitch works only for multi-players. Each player has to select the character, then de-select him/her and move the cursor off. Then, the players press B to go back one screen. When returning to the characters screen, the player should notice how the ring around the selected character is flashing two colors. If the player observes what happens when one player actually selects the character, all the other players have the same animation running too. When a race finishes, the second player's vehicle is invisible.

The player must have extremely precise aim and timing to do this glitch. In Dry Dry Ruins, if the player throws a Fake Item Box at the first pillar falling down near the inside, the Fake Item Box will go through the pillar.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In the second Spiky Topman tournament, if the player pushes a Topman to the outer ring of the Galaxy Colosseum (but not over the edge) and then the outer ring starts to fall, it will still try to attack the player while the ring falls. Therefore, the Topman will somehow transport itself from the falling outer ring back to the main stable platform.

The Wrong Vehicle Glitch.

When moving on towards the Kart/Bike selection screen (with the Selecting the Same Character glitch activated), if one player is on a bike and the other is in a kart, the players on the bike may look as though they're riding in a kart and vice versa. It does not affect the actual gameplay, and the players play as the character normally.

Template:Conjecturaltext

Sometimes when the player is watching a live Wi-Fi race, the player in first place who already past the finish line will start doing the sixth place and below animation while/or a racer(s) in sixth place or below will start doing the fifth place and above animation. Although it is more likely for the player in first place will do the wrong animation.

Template:Conjecturaltext

Players should do the "Selecting the Same Character" glitch, and choose either Peach, Daisy, or Rosalina. One player chooses a kart, while the other chooses a bike. One player has to get 3rd place or above, and the other take 4th place or below. At the victory ceremony, if one player keeps an eye on the princess in 4th place or below, the princess will be wearing a dress, while the other is wearing her biker suit, or vice versa.

In Coconut Mall, if the player does a trick on the small ramp to the right at the beginning of the course, they could end up in a glitch area of Coconut Mall. If they do it correctly, players can get the lap to count. This glitch has 4 known ways to do it.

Template:Conjecturaltext

This glitch is best done in Time Trials mode. In DK Summit, blast through the cannon, then turn around, face the top left corner of the red fence, and back up. Then use the Triple Mushrooms and go onto the purple boost pads on the edge. The Player should go flying through the course and into a black zone. Lakitu should pick The Player up and drop him off back at the starting line. This glitch is interesting because it allows you to do DK Summit backwards.

Template:Conjecturaltext

In Grumble Volcano, as soon as the lap starts, turn around and fall into the lava behind you. Then Lakitu will bring you up in front of a ramp. Face the rock on the left, drift in place then release the drift button, wheelie, and do a trick on the ramp. It is easiest done with light characters. Once on the rock, drive around it 3 times. Each time you go around, Lakitu will hold up the "2nd Lap" and "Final Lap" signs, then the race will end.

Template:Conjecturaltext

This glitch is best done in Time Trials mode. In Wario's Gold Mine, start the lap and immediately turn around. Face the first pipe, drift in place then release the drift button, wheelie, and use your Triple Mushrooms. You should land on the pipe and act as if you fell. Lakitu will drop you off on the track above the pipe. Turn around and run into the fence inside the mine. Then turn around and go across the finish line. If done correctly, Lakitu will hold up the "2nd Lap" or "Final Lap" signs, or the race will end.
