Big Boo (boss)
Template:Character-infobox The Big Boo is a recurring boss who first appeared in Super Mario World. He is a translucent Big Boo and secret villain of the game. Despite that, he looks identically like all Big Boos without any differences from them, except that he is white in Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World. The Big Boo is actually the first notable character to be a ghostly boss before the Bigger Boo.
History
Super Mario series
Super Mario World
The Big Boo first debuted in Super Mario World, he is a hidden boss only found in the Secret Donut Plains Ghost House.[1] He has two normal Boos accompany him in battle. The way he behaves is sightly different from that of other Big Boos. The Big Boo floats in the air around Mario, rather than chasing him. The Big Boo can only be injured when he is visible, so Mario has to throw a Grab Block at him at the right moment. Once hurt, he will become almost invisible, moving somewhere else and reappear. The Big Boo needs to be hit three times to be defeated. Mario or Luigi could touch the boss without being hurt, instead they must be wary of the normal Boos. Once The Big Boo is defeated, the new path to Star World will be shown.
Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3
The Big Boo reappears in the GBA remake of Super Mario Bros. 3, again as a boss who Mario has to fight against. He appears only in the e-reader's scanned level Doors o' Plenty where he plays the exact same role to that of Super Mario World except this time he could hurt Mario or Luigi by touch. Instead of Grab Blocks, Mario must use Ice Blocks.
Super Mario 64/Super Mario 64 DS
The Big Boo made another appearance in Super Mario 64 again as a recurring antagonist. A few years later after his loss in Super Mario World, Big Boo has residen in his new home, Big Boo's Haunt, since Bowser had invaded the Mushroom Kingdom and attacked Princess Peach's Castle.
The Big Boo is first encountered in the first mission of that world, Go On A Ghost Hunt. To see him, Mario must defeat every Boos on the first floor, and once every one of them has been defeated, Big Boo will appear in the main room of his mansion. The Big Boo behaves the same as every Boos from the game, though he is slow but will be faster if getting smaller. He can be defeated by being punched from behind, as he turns invisible whenever Mario faces him from the front. He is not very difficult to defeat as The Big Boo really has no attacks besides bumping into Mario. He is also easier to hit because of his large size. Once Mario has defeated him, a Power Star appears on the second floor and a staircase appears from the ground to reach it. In Ride Big Boo's Merry-Go-Round, right after Mario defeats five normal Boos, The Big Boo will appear again for another battle. This battle with Big Boo is slightly harder because of the rotating platform and fire coming out of the paintings. In the end, he will give up another Star once Mario defeats him in the same way he did in the first mission. In the fifth mission, Big Boo's Balcony, Mario's next journey takes him to another encounter with The Big Boo. He will have to head up to the third floor and see a door that will lead to the outside balcony, where he will meet Big Boo once again. After his third defeat, Big Boo will give up yet another Power Star. The Star will jump up to the roof of the house, and Mario will have to get up there to retrieve it.
In Super Mario 64 DS, The Big Boo's Haunt is also inhabited by King Boo. However, in the game, he is erroneously referred to as Big Boo in English versions. The Big Boo can be defeated by Mario, Luigi, and Wario, but not Yoshi.
Yoshi series
Yoshi's Safari
The Big Boo appears as the boss of the level Ghost mansion in Yoshi's Safari, Mario must shoot him with the Super Scope as he makes parts of the wall fall down on him. Later the Boo will separate into three smaller Boos. Mario must shoot the one with his tongue out to win.
Paper Mario series
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Template:Pmenemybox
The Big Boo reappears in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, now renamed Atomic Boo. The Atomic Boo is an optional mini-boss composed of approximately two hundred different Boos. To fight this boss, Mario must go to the Creepy Steeple after freeing the Boos in Chapter 4 and agreeing to be nice to them, after which all the Boos will come out and swarm him. If Mario knocks the Boos away twice with the Super Hammer by using the Spin Attack, the Boos will combine together to make the Atomic Boo. Atomic Boo attacks by flinging Boos at Mario, charging up a powerful glare attack, hiding his face and becoming invisible like regular Boos, floating over and falling onto both Mario and his partner, and inflicting Mario with status ailments such as confusion and paralysis. Once Atomic Boo is defeated, he will relinquish his Lucky Start badge to Mario and the Boos will stop their swarming and appear as normal enemies.
Mario Party series
Mario Party 2
In Mario Party 2, The Big Boo appears in the Horror Land stage. He bears the same appearance and design to that from Super Mario 64. As a typical Boo, he is able to steal objects from player's rivals, being coins or stars. However, Big Boo will deal for stealing the coins or the stars from all the opponents, while paying to him three times the amount of coins than a normal Boo would do. Characters can ask for him only in night time. When in daytime, The Big Boo appears as a giant Boo statue.
Mario Party 4
In Mario Party 4, The Big Boo reappears in the board Boo's Haunted Bash. In the game, he appears in an odd blue color.
Game & Watch Gallery series
The Big Boo is an opponent in the Boxing game for Game & Watch Gallery 4. He is Luigi's second opponent. However, instead of boxing gloves, Big Boo uses smaller Boos to pummel his opponents.
Mario Pinball Land
In Mario Pinball Land, Big Boo is one of the four bosses. He appeared in the haunted house at the Fun Fair. He has the last Star Key. To defeat him, Mario has to attack him from behind.
