A Wheelie is a technique that can only be used on a Bike in Mario Kart Wii. Wheelies slightly increase the speed of the user's bike, but if the user bumps into an object or a player, the wheelie is canceled and the user loses speed. Also, the speed increase comes at the cost of reduced handling, and turning while performing a wheelie slows down the user substantially. Wheelies will fail if the user tries to perform one without moving, or if he/she is moving too slowly.

Depending on the player's controller, a wheelie is activated accordingly:

To end them:

  • Wii Wheel: Push down.
  • Classic Controller: Press down on the +Control Pad
  • Gamecube Controller: Press down on the +Control Pad
  • Wiimote and Nunchuk: Push Wiimote down.

In addition, drifting can cancel a wheelie.

Trivia

  • The wheelie can be used to avoid the effects of POW Blocks, by timing it at a certain point.
    • Although karts cannot perform wheelies, they too can avoid POW Blocks with the same technique.
