Spiny Egg

Spiny Eggs, originally known as Spiny's Eggs, are the projectiles thrown by Lakitus. Spiny Eggs are small, usually red balls covered in spikes. Despite its name, a Spiny Egg would appear to not be an egg at all; it seems to simply be a Spiny rolled up into a ball. They are invincible while in this state though they can still die when touched by a Starman and burned by Fire Mario. In New Super Mario Bros., it is revealed that a Spiny will curl back up into a Spiny Egg when touched with water, and can float at the surface. In Super Mario Bros. 3, they introduced a Green Spiny Egg, which never hatched, only rolled around on the ground. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Yoshi can swallow the Spiny Egg despise its spikes and hard shell and spat back out, these can be used as projectiles to hurt enemies or break glass containers.

Spiny Eggs have also been referred as pipes, especially with the existence of Sky-Blue Pipes (which are the Sky-Blue Spinies' answer to the Spiny Eggs).

Spiny Eggs briefly appeared in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Mario and the Red Baron Koopa", where they were entirely pink, and acted more or less like they did in Super Mario Bros.. Later on, a single, green Spiny Egg was thrown by a Lakitu in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode "Life's Ruff". This Spiny Egg strangely made a small explosion upon hitting the ground and turning into a normal Spiny.
