The 'Shroom:Issue XIII/Beta Elements
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
The Facts
- Frogfucius's island at Tadpole Pond would be closer and therefore accessed differently.
- The 1995 V-jump presentation briefly showed a beta Yo'ster Isle, which was much larger and oddly seemed to feature no racetrack.
- A pair of Terrapins were also seen guarding an exit from Mario's Pad in this beta.
- Finally, Luigi was believed to be in, as he appeared in a screenshot.
Fact 1. This obviously makes one think. Would the entire map be different? Or would it just be Tadpole Pond? How would one access Frogfucius’s island?
Fact 2. Yo’ster Isle without a racetrack? This could drastically change the plot. Would Yo’ster Isle be more of a generic Yoshi’s Island? Or would it just be a minor location, with another location posessing the racetrack? Could this also mean that Boshi would be no more? Or would he still be included?
Fact 3. This could be misinterpreted. Would they only have been guarding Mario’s house in the opening of the game? Or would this mean that Bowser was the main antagonist? If Bowser was the main antagonist, the game therefore would no longer have Smithy in it, leading us to assume that nobody like Exor, or the Axem Rangers would have appeared in the game, or would they?
Fact 4. Based on this appearance and the format of the game, let us assume that Luigi was to be playable. Now, this could change the story up by getting him to join your party. Now, this doesn’t actually seem like the most interesting fact, but read on. If Luigi was playable this would be the list of playable characters from previous Marioverse games: Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser, and Luigi. Notice anything framiliar? This is the list of playable characters from Super Paper Mario. Does this beta information some how hint Super Paper Mario, which was released 11 years later? Or did Nintendo add Luigi to Super Paper Mario because of this assumed playability? Remember the fact that originally, only Mario, Bowser, and Princess Peach were assumed to be playable in Super Paper Mario.
Basically, the facts that I think would have changed the game for the better are Facts 3 and 4. They leave you to wonder, and they are both interesting to interpret.
