The Nintendo Comics System series, published by Valiant Comics, made comic books of many Nintendo characters, including Mario. He usually turned up paired with other characters, like Captain N or Link. They were quite funny, and featured special little pages like "Ask Princess Toadstool" and fake advertisements, like one for "Koopa Cola" (the only soda made with real coal! Now available in regular and extra-fat sizes!).
