The Wario Hop
- “This game is perfect for empty-headed dunces that don’t like to think much!! Of course, I’m a genius… I wonder why I’m so good at it?!”
- —Wario, Wario Land 4
The Wario Hop is a mini-game in the Game Boy Advance game Wario Land 4. The Wario Hop is one of three mini-games that can be accessed through the Mini-Game Shop. The mini-game costs 5,000 points to play (discounted to 2,000 points before Wario completes the Entry Passage). Wario must select the Red Game Bot to play. The game begins with Wario riding a tire in the middle of the desert. After a few seconds Wario will have to jump over the relaxing Arewo Shitain-hakase. Then more obstacles follow such as rocks, pigs, cacti, and cowboys. Each successful jump over an obstacle makes a sound, which is in time to the background music in the minigame. After jumping over thirty-seven obstacles in a row, the next obstacle will be a Drummer, which speeds up the game and increases the difficulty. The game speeds up again after jumping over a second drummer which serves as the ninety-seventh obstacle. A bird comes when Wario reaches the score he made in his previous session, when he beats his own high score, and every 100 points. The original music for this mini game is extremely similar to the theme song from the arcade game "Mappy."
Obstacles include:
- Mad Scienstein, who screams. He only appears at the beginning of each difficulty level.
- A pig, making a spring noise. It is the smallest obstacle.
- A rock, making a deep sound.
- A thin, kissing cactus, making an elegant sound.
- A fat cactus, uttering a high-pitched "Okay!"
- A cowboy on a horse, making a joyful yell. It is the largest obstacle.
- A man with drums, making the same scream as Mad Scienstein. He is only found at the end of each difficulty level and jumping over him makes the level go at a higher speed.
Wario will be awarded a medal after every fifteen successful jumps. The minigame ends when Wario fails to jump over an obstacle and hits it with the car tire. Medals can be spent at the Item Shop, in exchange for items that can assist Wario in defeating a boss.
