The United Kingdom is one of the three levels that are playable in NES Open Tournament Golf, along with Japan, the United States of America, France (in the Japanese version), and Australia (in the Japanese version). Like all golf courses, it has 18 holes. The UK is the largest of all five courses and has more obstacles. The background music played sounds like bagpipes being blown.

Mario is Missing!

Map of London

In Mario is Missing!, Luigi visits one city in the United Kingdom on his quest to rescue Mario, the capital city of London. London is visitable in all three versions of the game: the MS-DOS, SNES, and NES versions. Several notable landmarks are visited, including the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. Luigi must also return famous artifacts back to the three landmarks - the crown jewels from the Tower, a Shakespeare bust from Westminster Abbey, and Big Ben's minute hand.

Locations based on the United Kingdom

The following sections describe elements from Super Mario-related media that are not located in the United Kingdom but are inspired by their landmarks and locations.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

The episode The Adventures of Sherlock Mario of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! takes place in a fictional city known as Victoria, which is heavily based on London. The name itself is named after the Victorian Period, which took place in the mid-to-late 19th century and is named after Queen VIctoria. Mario describes Victoria as being the land of mystery, cloaks and daggers and screams in the night and is somewhat dark and gloomy in appearance at night, being surrounded by extremely thick fog. This clearly alludes to the city of London's portrayal in popular media such as mystery movies and books. The episode also features the character Herlock Solmes, who is based on the fictional British detective Sherlock Holmes.

Super Mario Odyssey

The first location that Mario visits in Super Mario Odyssey is Bonneton in the Cap Kingdom, which is also heavily based on Victorian Period London. The misty haze throughout the Kingdom, the architecture in the background, and the clothing worn by the Bonneters all point back to 19th century England. Further, the residents of Bonneton use many British expressions.
