8-bit?

"Strangely, the Ninji appear in 8-bits, even though the game is in 16-bits."

What does this mean? Does it mean they re-used the sprites from SMB2? That doesn't really mean the character "appears in 8-bits," which is a sort of nonsensical statement conflating the artwork with architecture. --Toadstool Forever 00:51, 23 March 2007 (EDT)

Wrong pictures

I would like to point out that the display of PM style ninjis is just a bunch of unofficial recolors. ShyGuy27|Talk

Split Giant Ninji from Ninji

split 4-0
Yes, I remember the proposal to merge Giant Ninji in the first place. I'm creating this proposal with the intention of correcting what that proposal did. The core reason behind this proposal is that Ninji and Giant Ninja are two separate enemies. I can't really go into much more detail than that. What I can offer, however, are examples. Besides the list that Garlic Man/Marcelagus created on the proposal I linked to (I am aware that half of the articles he linked to have been merged, but the other half still hasn't been merged), there are currently two other porposals with similar intentions, though one is to split Giga Carrot from Carrot and the other is to split Big Whomp from Whomp. The only opposition one of those proposals received is not only incorrect, it has been easily countered.

One final note: Not all short articles are stubs. Even if this turns out to be a short article, that still doesn't mean it will be a stub. Stubs are articles that are lacking information, not articles that are simply small.

Split

  1. GreenDisaster (talk) Per my proposal.
  2. Raven Effect (talk) I agree 100% with this proposal and i'd like to add that even though it doesn't have an official name it's still a different enemy just like how Grand Goomba is a different type of Goomba even though it's just a bigger type of goomba or how Super Venus Fire Trap has an article despite just being a bigger version of a fire trap.
  3. Koopa K (talk) Per proposal.
  4. RandomYoshi (talk) – Per proposal and Shoey.

From Super Mario Advance?

Ninji
Is this artwork really from Super Mario Advance?
Ninji sprites from Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario World and Paper Mario.
Look at the first Ninji...
A Big Ninji from Super Mario Advance.
...and this one makes it clearer.

I don't know if this would be the right place to ask this but as it is related to Ninji, it needs to be spoken: I am certainly doubtful whether the artwork on the right actually originates from Super Mario Advance because that game's manual never listed Ninji in the enemies section and because of that, Ninji wasn't given an actual artwork for that game, what's worse the Ninjis on the artwork do not look like how Ninji are in-game Super Mario Advance, I mean, they don't sport those red buttons, in fact, the sprites actually imply that part to be a mouth, or a large grin with two protruding buckteeth, this is more evident with the Giant Ninji; also, Ninjis and their giant counterparts in Super Mario Advance have that pink spot on their ears, implying they are not wearing a jumpsuit like they do in other games but actual skin or fur, all these certainly contradicts the artwork. In the past, there has been artwork inconsistency, like the Sumo Bro. artwork lacking a horn in Super Mario World, but not at this rate. I remember that artwork was actually listed for Super Mario Bros. 2 instead, before someone moved it to Super Mario Advance because "The Ninji page has mentioned this is from Advance for some time"... That's not a true source! and yes, that's the actual summary of the fellow who updated it. If it was indeed from Super Mario Advance it would need to specify from which material it originates, whether a game guide or a promotional artwork officially endorsed by Nintendo because definitely the manual doesn't help at all.

You're right - it's not from (at least) the English manual nor the Prima guide. However, it can be seen in a Japanese guide (which also has unique art for Bob-omb rather than the one here where it's paired with Albatoss, as well as different enemy colors like yellow Beezo). For reference, these are scans of 「スーパーマリオアドバンスドキドキ!かんぺきガイド」 (Super Mario Advance Doki Doki! Kanpeki Guide). It's certainly not from any material for the original Super Mario Bros. 2. As for the in-game sprite discrepancy, that's likely because it's derived from All-Stars, which didn't update the artwork at that point. On the topic of Super Mario Advance artwork, though, I think the better question is where this Phanto reupload originated. LinkTheLefty (talk) 07:00, 25 January 2016 (EST)
Old conversation, I know, but half of that artwork was in the Perfect Edition of the Great Mario Character Encyclopedia, as seen here [1]. It was released in 1994. The same goes for that Bob-omb. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:20, 20 September 2017 (EDT)

Color Splash Ninji behavior?

Is it just me, or can Ninjis only be jumped on no matter whether they're jumping or standing? It seems like I've tried hammering both jumping and standing Ninjis and they always dodge; likewise it seems I can jump on them in either state. The Blue Boo (talk) 17:11, 1 January 2017 (EST)

Pupils

I'm not saying the black body being a costume is false, i just want to know how the pupils specifically is what indicate that. Some artworks for Koopas and Yoshis depict them with pupils shut, so... --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 03:08, July 25, 2023 (EDT)

A mistake

Ninji is a a bad guy on mario wonder, if mario touches it, it either power down or lose life, plus they can be killed by items like fire mario.

Plural of Ninji

One of the new Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door missions in Super Mario Run states: "Defeat 9 or more Ninjies". As far as I can tell the only two other uses of the plural form of Ninji were in Paper Mario (N64) and Origami King where it was written as "Ninjis", which is what the article (and Paper Ninji) currently uses. Is this assumed to be a typo, or should we be using the newest spelling as reference? Meeper12346 (talk) 12:45, May 23, 2024 (EDT)

The description for the challenge that unlocks Airship Plunder pluralized it as "Ninjis" before. I don't have a way of checking if they changed it in the update, but if it wasn't changed, then the spelling within the game would be inconsistent, so I wouldn't consider it a reliable source.
